Shep Trans - May 07, 2008 11:15 pm UTC

I got my transmission rebuilt from John Sheppard at Shep Trans. A stage 4 tranny with a 4 spyder diff thing.

I must say at first when I was talking with John and trying to figure out what my best setup could be John was nothing more than very helpful and approached me from a very professional stance.

After 3 weeks the tranmission was complete and I send money order payment just as agreed prior to work. After two weeks John called me and told me that he as not recieved the payment yet. After checking with shipping, the payment got rejected becuase some labeled the address wrong and the payment came back to me. Here is were it got interesting.

John thought I was lying to him and demanded that I send him a copy of proof that I even made a money order to him. No big deal there, but the odd thing is, he put my tranmission up for sale!!! Isnt that completely retarded?? I dont know maybe he thought I was trying to scam him or something. I sent someone out next day with the money order to pick it up from his shop. His secretary Anthony told me over the phone the next before pick up that he would write me an invoice stating that the transmission was repaired under warranty so that I would have less hassle at the border. Next day when my guy asked for the paper, Anthony told him I was full of it and that Anthony NEVER agreed to anything like that.

So I dont know. I had someone drive 6 hours one day because they are suppose to be the best in our cars. I didnt install the transmission yet, they tanked it and it looks literally brand new. But I just feel that they should have handled things a little differently instead of thinking that Im a liar trying to screw them.

TYpical American assholes IMO, no matter how good they claim to be with DSM's. I would tell him to shove the transmission where the sun don't shine.

That doesn't sound very professional. Typical though. When people know they are the best at what they do they feel they can do anything. I am sure you will be happy with the end product but they still could have taken a different approach when handling the situation. Let us know how that tranny works.

It's possible that John was burned in the past (several times) and figured it would be a typical scenario where the guy has the tranny built and then doesn't have the dough.

Either way, not professional.

Maybe if he has been burned a few times in past, he should ask for half up front or something. That would weed out those who aren't serious. Putting someone else's tranny up for sale just doesn't sound right no matter how you look at it..

Ya, when you hear the same sh!t 20 times after building a product for someone you're tolerance probably disappears. It's unfortunate you actually had happen what most of the douche-bags who stiff him claim happen.

As for the border paper work it is probably fraud so if you can get it bonus. I would think legit shops would be less inclined to stick thier neck out for a single sale.

When you think about it, my transmission probably has a higher valve then he has in his parts.

EVEN IF I was to not pay, he still got a free core that he can flip or rebuild.

He charges alot if he supplies the tranny as well.

I can tell you that John deals with a lot of stooges on a daily basis. John is a stand up guy and for what it's worth, Anthony doesn't work there any more.

I delt with them almost a year ago, now I only got a Quaife LSD off of him, but he was helpful with that and reconmended which stage axles from Drive Shaft Shop I should go with.
