1G Squeaky Clutch Pedal

1G Squeaky Clutch Pedal - May 29, 2009 02:33 pm UTC

Just the other day my clutch pedal started to make a squeaking noise. I immediately checked the master, looked for leaks etc. Nothing found. Crawled under the console to have a look...can not see anything out of the ordinary.

Can I lube the clutch rod? and if yes with what? or am I looking to replace the assembly? :-(

I would spray some white grease. Pull back the master cyl. dust boot and spray it in there too.

Very good Rob. I just came back from CT @ lunch. Will try this when I get home. Sounds simple enough...untill I try to fit under the console again! LOL

Update:
Sprayed the clutch rod and needed areas. No More squeak noise.
I looked further and found a very very small sign of fluid coming out from the boot!!!
Checked the res. and it was at proper level.

If the very very small leak gets larger, what would be the best route to go? Just the rebuild kit? or a new assembly?

The rebuild kit from crappy tire works and it's pretty easy to do, but they don't last very long compared to a new assembly.

If you do get a new cyl, make sure you compare them side by side. I got one from Mitsu and the rod was not the same length, so I had to use my old rod.

UPDATE:

Replaced the master clutch cylinder. What a PITA to do!
If your a smaller person you would have no problems fitting under the dash and working...large people GOOD LUCK.

In the end it was installed and working perfectly...quick knock on wood.

What is your definition of a large person?

I would say it is anyone larger than an average sized person, so that would be anyone larger than two Tims! lol

I am 6'1 280lbs...I found it very tight under the dash to remove the cotter pin & re-insert.

I had a little help from a little person. Kind of embarassing to say...my mother got the cotter pin in place.

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to you mom. tu tu

Crap, I'm so sorry I didn't give you the tip earlier shuffle
Oh well, there's next time, when you get close to rolling the odometer over smile

Instead of messing with the pin, you can just turn the rod all the way out of it. Just count the turns so you can get it back to about the same spot. I think it's easier to adjust it a few times after than it is to re&re the pin.
