staggered wheels on an awd dsm

I've seen it done...successfully? I don't know, I understand the rolling diameter needs to match back and front but could someone run a 7.5" wheel up front and 8" in the rear? then 225 and 245?

My current wheels are 18x8 +40mm offset and they fit PERFECTLY. tires are 245/40/18 which is a VERY common size and doesn't break the bank to buy them.

I'm just already sick of these wheels (Enkei EKM3 in hyper silver)..and I miss having a machined lip. AND, I found a great deal on some SPYN SPYDER EVO's which are the size's i described up top.

input your tire sizes into this online tire calculator and you should find that there is a size difference of almost a half inch circumference which I would think that would be too much.
I battled this as I found a beautiful set of Volks that I wanted but after much math I went non staggered

according to that calculator (which is fracking wicked btw) there's a .6 of an inch difference in total diameter with the tires. that's too big of a difference

although, I could technically run the same tire size front and back 245/40/18 and 18x8 in the rear with a 2" lip and +40 offset, then no lip up front in a +45 offset and 18x7.5

but...that's more show than go. i just may do that HAHAHAHA

you can easily run a 225/45/18 and a 245/40/18

Just run a spacer in your back rims..

The only disadvantage with running staggered wheels is the viscous coupler in the transmission.

Its a big disadvantage. You lose your AWD if that thing shits the bed. I wouldn't do it if I were you.

naww i've decided against it. if anything, I'll keep looking for my machined lip rims. I miss my Racing Hart Evo C5's problem is, they're discontinued.

Why is everyone so bent on low rides? Dont you guys like to DRIVE your cars? Seriously, it looks cool and all but Im fine with an inch or an inch and a half gap in the wheel well if It means I can drive it hard and not bang my upper control arms through the strut towers, or take five minutes to get into the tim hortons parking lot.

LOL, I have to agree with Rob on this one. I will say that I still take my sweet time over speed bumps, enough that the girl friend gets annoyed. I think what annoys her the most is when we are in her SUV and I still take it slow over the speed bumps

I never had a problem with control arms rubbing, Just rear tires rubbing in the back. And that was with 18s. Dont have the exact size.

I bet my inch and a half gapped dsm will handle ten fold better than your VW wanna be tucked DSM

When you lower the car THAT much, and wanna DRIVE it, your gonna bang bump stops and hit the strut towers, unless you baby the thing, ......pretty boy

coming from a guy who has sooo much fine detail and prefection in is car that most would be afraid to drive it in the rain or on dirt roads......

I love my ride height, its just low enough to look like a sports car but since she is a winter time beast I wont get hung up on just a couple inches of snow.
My VW sat the height of 2.5 inches from the ground I couldnt drive it anywhere with out scraping. Now I am fast and I can clear what ever I want Eibach Prokit I could deal with sport lines but for now it sits where it sits

I agree with Rob. I had my car lowered on Eibach Sportline springs and it was WAY too low. I was scraping everywhere, had trouble getting into parking lots, underground garages, etc.

I also found it dangerous when entering some stripmalls making a left turn. I had to slow down to a crawl with oncoming traffic rolling in.

It was unnerving.

I don't know how much of a gap there is with stock springs, but it doesn't look too bad.

I know the Eibach Prokit springs aren't the greatest for handling, but for straight looks they seem to be just right, not too low not too high.

I don't think you have to worry about scraping with the Prokit.

Im rocking the pro kit and tokico whites. Love em, but dont love the ride height. I want sexy low. Which is just barely tucking. Theres a line i dont want to cross where the looks outperform the performance. And both are important to me sooo..coilovers next season lol

yeah man, I literally just installed two new front white's and the rears are maybe 2 seasons old by now. the reason I replace the two front was because one was leaking and i figured seeing as I had the transmission out and the axles off, including upper control arms (powdered btw ) may aswell spend the extra $150 or whatever it was to refresh the front end. I've put MAYBE 2,000kms on them by now?

and as for the prokit springs, they're new last summer, so also, 2 season.

I've also got some spare top hats that could use a sand blast and powder coat but if I go coilover next season, I'll just give those to you Mike, they're still in great shape too.

The pro kit is a nice spring. I had them on my GSR never been a big rim/tire guy. My Talon has the sportlines just to make it look unperched, they handle great even with my little stock tires and rims. I think sometimes the lower you go the dumber your are. I hate honking at idiots that take 5 mins to pull into any parking lot althought they do look so sweet low and tucked it is completely useless in this great land we call CANADA.

Sick, spring is looking mighty fine.

I'm gonna try and get dirty this weekend so I'm ready in the spring and I can just toss 'em in on my own.
