Unorthodox Pulley - June 21, 2000 02:17 am UTC
1) I did a runout on my alternator and water pump pulley and fixed it almost perfectly to take away from belt vibration
2)I have no idea why but the 36.5" belt that they recommend will not fit on the 2.0 non turbo, you need a 37.7" belt to fit. I don't know if the non turbo has a different water pump pulley????
3) The engine had to be dropped a bit to fit the new pulley on the crankshaft. I just loosened the 4 bolts holding the side mount of the engine to drop it about 1/2 an inch and the pulley slid right on. Other than that anyone can change this without a problem.
4)Throttle is more responsive although I have no idea what the gains are. (no before after #'s) I'm sure I'm into the 15+ hp range if you combine this with the balance shaft removal that I did a couple weeks ago.
The new pulley is very well made and has a 0 runout on the crank. It weighs next to nothing and the overall dimensions are smaller than the stock pulley. I've had no problems at idle with alternator output or cooling flow (all accessories have lower rpm with this pulley) and I doubt I will as the hot summer approachs but I'll keep everyone informed.
There's no NEW vibrations either with this pulley in any rpm range.
