Catch cans and overflows are popular.

I would be interested in an overflow for a 1g.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 06:55 am UTC

I could use a overflow for a 1g as well...

let me know what kind of design you are looking for and i will see what i can come up with? i'm guessing people want them the same as from frontline fab?

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 02:10 pm UTC

Frontline Fab doesn't make an overflow or a catch can that is 1g specific..just for the 2g

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 02:36 pm UTC

where are the frontline ones mounted in the engine bay? I could probably make up something that would bolt to the shock towers bolts or would mount with a self tapping screws.

Im thinking one K&N vent per unit and one fitting to connect to valve cover. I can also put a drain valve in the bottom of them.

need to know what size fittings people are wanting and i can get those parts ordered from RTM and build them ASAP

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 03:17 pm UTC

Well for the catch cans most people are running off both vents so you would need two inputs.

As for the coolant overflow, if it mounting bracket was to the stock BOV location that would be perfect, or right behind the rad if you need more clearance.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 04:34 pm UTC

alright so most people are wanting the coolant overflow right now?

I can probably put something together this weekend for them. not to sure what they will have for a cap yet

Just like this:

Here is the guys website if you want more pictures. You can see the mounting bracket on the third picture.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 05:41 pm UTC

I could make something exactly like that but they wouldn't be cheap.

Around $150 tax in would be the best i could do. looking at 3 hours labor to build one and i usually charge $60/hr + materials but you never end up making that on these projects.

im sure those caps aren't cheap either

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 07:32 pm UTC

Well I would be in at that price. I don't really care what type of cap just as long as it's screw top.

Also wondering if you would be interested in making me a fuel cell. I would need it to use the original mounting points and would want it to have studs so I can put in the original sending unit.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 08:38 pm UTC

well lets worry about the overflow before we get to carried away...

would anyone else be in @ $150?

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 28, 2012 11:38 pm UTC

The coolant res from Frontline for the 2g goes where the stock fusebox is. To use it, you need to relocate your stock fusebox. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures.

The catch can from Frontline, at least for the 2g, mounts above the battery and requires a battery relocation to use.

edit: Not trying to speak for Ziggy, but you might want to get in touch with Ziggy to see if he would be able to supply you with a cap, either by sourcing or fabrication.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - December 29, 2012 01:57 pm UTC

I've had a quick look, and only thing I could find decently priced is the Jegs cap and bung. It has the Jegs logo, which I am not sure people would want, and I don't have an account with Jegs. I can get others, but not really cheap.

I DO have a chinese "oil catch tank" that comes with a cap for some reason (no idea why), maybe that could be converted somehow??

I plan to mount the FF catch can where the cruise control would be, but transverse, or perpendicular to the battery. And using two 90* fittings to -10an braided lines to the valve cover. I didn't think the catch can comes with any type of mounting bracket. If it does, that's not good! I'd need to cut and grind them off so I could customize one for my application.

here are some pictures of a piece that i was working on for a bit this weekend. Let me know what you think. not Dead set on this design, might ditch the tubing for a different style.

Theres really only so much that you can do in such limited space, right now its set up to mount to where the stock air box hole is and to a square hole near the rad on the top... the level invicator sits right where the stock overflow is.

No lid yet because everywhere that would sell them is closed. Probably looking at another 2 weeks for the cap because "pro-Werks" is in the states

I'm not a 100% sure how it works out, but the description is "This guy is 100% bolt-in as long as your battery is relocated."

I am liking it so far, I would definitely be interested in keeping the indicator cause it's always nice to know exactly how much is in there.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - January 02, 2013 09:18 pm UTC

Update on this... found the pro werks caps, there not cheap but thats alright i will still do the same pricing on them.

I will have the caps friday, ordered 4 of them so if you are wanting one send me a PM and i will reserve one for you.

I have test fit the positioning of them in the car and they are going to fit near the stock location. It will run flat across the front. I will take more pictures when they are fitting right and the caps are on.

Thanks

Here are some pictures for you installed in a 1g with a front mount intercooler and short route piping. I see no reason why they wont fit on a stock intercooler car however.... also i have supplied a 1" spacer with the coolant overflow so if your pipes hit on the bottom all you have to do is put the spacer in the bottom... if they dont hit the spacer will go in the top setting the unit down in farther. The pictures of it are with the spacer on the top.

Sorry to interrupt here, but Bryan...does this mean you no longer want the Frontline Fabrications catch can?
Posted By: Bryan Lawrence

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - January 06, 2013 05:18 pm UTC

Ziggy this is an overflow, I thought you already put in the order for the catch can?
Posted By: Ziggy Dietrich

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - January 06, 2013 06:03 pm UTC

Yes, order is in, that was my concern (although, I STILL haven't heard back with an ETA from Andrew at Frontline). Sorry, I thought this thread was a about a catch can also....

Carry on please....

Still have 2 overflow bottles left, I may be able to make some for 2Gs if anyone is interested.

Also if anyone is needing any other projects let me know and ill see what i can come up with.

Re: Welding/Fabrication shop/Like us on facebook - January 17, 2013 03:40 pm UTC

Well after looking over my options. I'm going to get more into the Pipe building aspect. hoping to build pipes for highway tractors, custom turbo setups and exhaust for cars and trucks. Like a pipe only specialty store... There isn't a lot of people who do pipe around my area and I already have some experience in the field.

also hoping to go in and get some tickets for pipe welding so i will be fully certified if i'm needed for factory jobs.

I will still be offering a basic fabrication service but i'm not going to be looking for any big jobs, still have access to a sheet metal shop but they want to charge me $60/hr to use there equipment.

Have a nice piece of equiptment on order to add to my shop:

http://www.huthbenders.com/huth-products/expanders-and-swagers/portable-expander-model-1691

hoping in the next month or so to also add full tooling for the machine to do 1" - 5" pipe ( really really expensive for what it is) also there is a rod bending attachment for it to do hangers, looking at a power bead roller, dies for making expansion joints in my shop press and possibly some kind of vertical "mandrel style" bender

all the attachments and dyes for stuff like this seems to be ridiculously priced which sucks but hoping to get most of this stuff in the next 3-6 months and hopefully have the business in full operation by the end of the year...

If anyone is looking for any type of pipes let me know!
