Talon Body Restoration

Talon Body Restoration - April 16, 2013 04:49 pm UTC

Hey DSM'ers,

I have been looking over the Kijiji sites and have found a nearby Talon in white. It's not AWD, which is what I have.

My question:
My car has some glaring rust spots and dents. Can I use body parts from a FWD to put on my AWD? I know that there are some similarities...but I read that the AWD version is a larger car (?).

I'm looking to minimize costs!

My apologies if this sounds like a dumb question...but I want to make sure. My object is to get my Talon on the road for June.

Any suggestions as well are always appreciated.

Which body parts are you looking to replace?

Almost every (if not all) body part should be transferable between the FWD and AWD bodies, remember that all the AWD magic happens underneath the car.

Your concerns are legitimate, I have a fwd rear bumper and it was a bitch to put on. I think the measurements are pretty small drifferences, but they may make a difference.

Looking at replacing:

The front bumper
The pieces around the front wheels
Driver side door (the panel keeps falling off)
Hood

Maybe assorted other pieces. The front for the most part as it has suffered the most.

But judging from the measurements...I'm SOL.

So everything should work perfectly, the only thing I am not 100% sure about is the doors.

The doors are the same but the holes for the moulding clips are different. You would have to tape the mouldings on or something to retain them. Same story with rest of the bodyside mouldings. The front bumper rebar is different as well so if you want to change the fascia it would fit best using the right rebar.
