Coolant hoses

I want to replace all the coolant/heater hoses on the car now that she's down(fixing broken exhaust manifold stud). Does anyone know the part numbers for the hoses? Should I order them from a local dealer or would I save money buy ordering from Tallahasse Mitsubishi? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kon, don't know if you're from Canada or not, but if you are, the prices at Tallahasse Mitsu for dealer parts are about half what you'd pay at a Canadian dealer (even taking into account the exchange rate). If you're not from Canada the difference is not nearly as dramatic.

As for the part numbers--don't know, but I'm sure Talla Mitsu can help you there.

I just changed all my coolant, vacuum/Emission and fuel line in the engine compartment. I bought the stuff by the foot at Canadian Tire. Secured them with some new hose clamps. Lot cheaper and as good.

Thanks for the responses guys. Some of the coolant lines are "shaped" in a way to fit in their appropriate places. Does it matter if I just buy "straight" pieces of hose for the coolant hoses instead of the "shaped" stock hoses? Ghislain, are you sure that the hoses you bought from Canadian Tire to do the coolant hoses were intended for coolant to pass through?

Kon, what kind of coolant are you planning on using? I saw the long life coolant, I guess similar to the ones on GM cars, and wonder if they would actually be good for our cars. Anyone have any opinions on this long life coolant? Is it worth it or should I just change it every year?

Chia, I'll probably go with a long life coolant. But I would flush the system every 2 years or so just to be on the safe side, IMHO.

I replaced my upper coolant hose with a canadian tire brand. The original had a leak after 10 years and 203,000km. The replacement hose is thicker and may last longer (?) than the original. The OEM clamps were a little difficult to re-use due to the thicker hose. Replacement hose costs me $10.86 with tax, and was shaped close to the OEM.

The long life coolant works fine with the 4G63 engine. It's been in mine for four years and counting.

I ordered them all from Tall Mits. Just tell them you want ALL coolant hoses including the turbo coolant ones. Some are bent to shape and straight ones will not work well as they will be crimped.

Hello again.

Crappy Tire sells three type of hoses. One for each type of fluid, coolant, fuel and the last one been vacuum/Emission. You will need to buy a few feet of each in order to do them all. Measure everything and allow a little exrta. I was able to make them fit as the original. Take your time putting them on so they don't rub on anything.

Don't bother changing to the long life coolant, it won't do you any good. The stuff is only meant to be put in if the vehicle had it from the factory. If you put it into a system the has had regular coolant in it you will loose the long life properties of it. The only time you could change over is if you had the engine out for a rebuild and had it totally cleaned out. ANY green in the system will contaminate the pink stuff. Even if if you do a coolant flush it will still contaminate it. This straight from GM themselves (used to work at a dealer).

I bought cheapo rad hoses from CDN Tire as well. After I test fitted them, they went right back into my parts bin, and I kept the old ones.

Even worn, they're still better than the CDN Tire hoses...

Well, I know crappy tire has coolant, and feul hoses, but I have been to 3 of them, and the only vaccum hose they have comes in one size ,and in a package, it cant be cut, it is packaged...

I dont know maybe I only choose locations that have moron's behind the counter???

One dude was trying to get me to buy feul line hose and use it for vaccum... do you know how thick that sh!t is??

I bought some 1/8" hose for the vacuum lines and some 3/8" for the brake booster and pcv valve to intake manifold by the foot at the CT here in Trenton. Maybe your CT does not have some available to sell by the foot. Try another automotive part store like UAP or go to another CT.
