Supercharging an NT

Has anyone modified an NT with a supercharger? Turbo conversion is out of my league.

Turbo conversion on a 1G would be a LOT cheaper than goin with a supercharger.

Most kits run well into the thousands. To do a turbo conversion could cost you less than 1k.

I asked around about a turbo conversion here in calgary and there is no mechanic that has dealt with a turbo conversion so I am left with a supercharger option now.

Wouldn't a turbo conversion cost just as much, since you has to swap a whole bunch of stuff.

It has been done before.

The Supercharger was made out of a Root Type Supercharger (If I remember right) and was welded into an Intake manifold.

Boost was about 7 psi which a NT Motor can take no problem. It had an excellent responce.

You would still have to put a Turbo ECU, Injectors/Resistors and wire in a Knock Sensor. Half way to a Turbo conversion...

Can u still get that super charger? go to www.magnusmotorsports.com and phone the guy u can get a good turbo motor and computer for around 1800$. That should be cheaper than the supercharger but i could be wrong, also its a hassle to find the parts but worth it because then u will be as fast as a stock turbo car thats what im saving for

Yeah. I found a complete turbo kit for my 94 NT talon. The price on it was quoted to be $4K. The kit was designed for the NT DSM motors.... The kit comes complete with the ECU, gaskets, injectors, etc.

You guys are looking at expensive brand name kits (read: overpriced junk).

You can get a 14b and all the necessary parts from club members or online at dsmtrader.com, and put together a turbo "kit" for less than 1k, guaranteed. And you don't need a mechanic to do it, get your hands dirty! All the parts are basically bolt ons, and you can use a turbo car as reference.

A supercharger install has to be completely custom, which means time and money. Turbo parts already exist and are easy to find.Do it the cheap and proven way.

Darko, If i replace the pistons over from a turbo dsm would i be ableto run higher boost? how do i attach the proper oil lines to the block and turbo?

the reason why I'm getting a brand name turbo kit is because I really don't know very much about cars and modifications. I would be more comfortable sleeping if a mechanic installed the kit.

You'd sleep even better if you sold your car and bought a TSi.

i think gabriel is in the same situation as me... Cant sell the car!!

The reason why I won't sell my car is becuz I like it too much. I am the only owner for my car, so I know exactly whats not wrong with my Talon.

I believe our own Mike Hamilton installed a supercharger (out of a GM3800 series II) on a DSM, if I remembered correctly, we was running about 5psi, more and he gets too much heat as there is no place to fit an intercooler.

guys, it's not really worth the time and money to mod a NT (unless it is in super duper condition). Just sell the car and get a TSI AWD.

Yeah. Mike Hamilton did put a supercharger on his car. One of Mike Meron's creations. I saw it. It's an amazing piece of work. It's quite impressive how he did it.

and the NT pistons will cook if you run high boost, even with forged pistons....no oil squirters to cool the pistons.

and the supercharger worked fairly well for MH, to bad there was too much heat under the hood

I never saw his SC, but I was thinking about it recentally. He had to build a Custom Intake, Which, is probally not hard to get a hold of, just call Magnus. Getting the intake hose to fit on the other side of the engine will be a problem. You could probally just lengthen all the vacuum lines, and it should work. When he sold it he wanted $800. Not sure what he got for it. I considered it, and might try to get it still. But really getting a turbo will cost the same, if not less. You can run highter boost. And be able to seek advice when sh!t happens. Where as with the SC. Yeah It would be cool to have it supercharged.

Thanx Shaun, Right now I don't know what I want now. I'm leaning into a turbo, but I can't find any mechanics that are confident in the conversion. I've called around on the SC install from SC experts and they won't touch my car. They say "it won't fit, not going to try".

A few engine builders have said the oil squirters aren't really neccesary and a few people have began running without them after having them break off and screw up their crank
