EVO Rim Options

Hey Guys

Looking to put a new set of rims on the Evo because the tires on the car are actually winters. I'm so used to having a red car with black rims... that now owning a black car is making it hard for me to decide on the style, lol.

I can either buy a package (wheel + tire) or keep the stock wheels and mount them on another set of tires, then buy steelies or something to mount on the current wheels.

I do like 1. But I've always been partial to a busy rim with a machined lip. Do your research and find out your max your tire size for optimal lateral performance. Then base your wheel decision on that

That is of course if you want show and go.

Whats the avg. cost for these? Do you know off hand? I can probably budget around $1500 for the combo at the moment...

I think the gold might be too "bright" for black... but I'll check both options out.

They're not cheap. Want to say between $300-$400 a rim.

TE37's WILL be my next major purchase, and the Evo Enkeis will be demoted to full time track wheel when I do. I just powdered a set for a customer, 18's and man, they are SOFAKING LIGHT!!! Worth EVERY PENNY. I wouldnt regret a purchase of a quality rim. Dont cheap out. Save until you get something PROPER.

You will be into 2K for a new set with shipping and tax, but theres quite a few used sets out there. New or used, as long as they are straight, your not to worry with a quality purchase like these wheels.

Enkei makes a good light weight 18 forged as well. Just powdered a set of NT03's, and MAN ARE THEY LIGHT as well.

Again, save up and just spend the money ONCE.

PS, Ive sat in your car and walked around it ten times over while it was at Deeps. I envisioned the Volk's on the car. Those rims make Evo X's pure sex.

#3 is showing BLACK TE37's, (or are those Gram Lights??) but on a black car, Im not a fan of black rims on black cars MOST OF THE TIME. I LOVE black rims, but GOLD on a black car is better.

Thanks for the info Rob! I think I'm sold on the 5 thick spoke style, but I don't think I'll be able to afford the $2000+ price tag so I'll have to keep an eye out for a used set (maybe on the evo boards). Or maybe there's another brand that looks like these?

Not a fan of the first option in your last post just because of that inner ring. Looks weird to me.

That inner ring is a rigidity ring. That's a high end Enkei. Pick one up and see how well made and light they are!

I didn't like the ring at first when I saw them either but it grew on me after handling a set for a week.

Don't buy a copy, buy a name u can trust. Buying used is fine, as long as they are tip top!

Might I add, you will find out rather quickly that owning an evo is PAY TO PLAY! If u got a modding itch u better have deep pockets

OE tire size looks to be 245/40/18.

So that's your base to work off.

Wheels to me are like a pair of shoes. You'll never just own one pair, and they're seasonal.

So over the course of your ownership with the evo, you'll likely have run through a few sets like I have with my eclipse.

Don't follow the X's much but the ones I have seen with swapped rims/tires are normally like 265 I believe.

Been in a modded one that was tucking 285 track tires as well

20' rims looks pretty goofy, but the 19' rims look pretty nice.

If you go with TE37's you NEED to go with an offset/size that makes them concave. That is when they look like sex.

Save up for TE37's. I was torn between these and RPF1's. I ended up going with RPF1's because I've always wanted a set.

On your EVO, TE37's would look slick. As for color, I like bronze wheels on black cars.

If you were open to other rims, I had a nice set of BBS LM's that would have looked awesome. The size was all wrong though.

I'd also have to agree with Rob's advice, DON'T BUY KNOCKOFF WHEELS!

EVO's are for girls. Sell it and buy something nice.

If you want to replace them at the end of the summer than go for it.

Actually, Deep told me that they put 2 brand new summer tires on the front, but the rears are winter. I just assumed all 4 were the same when I noticed the rear winter tire, so that's a little bit of good news. I'll just buy 2 matching tires for the rears, and then save up for rims.

Or, go with a set of Enkei GTC01's

Where are FUZION tires made?

If you select a tire that's made in the states, there's only 1 duty to cover + hst.

You can save some money if you do it that way.

I have NO problem picking up two tires for you at the OG and bringing them with me the weekend of April 13th.

But I just realised something..you're AWD now. You should seriosly consider buying a SET of 4 tires.

Mike, We changed only the driver side tire. It was matched with the passenger side. I think it was around 160 including taxes and installation.

Ughhh.. I thought you changed both the drivers and passenger. Mis-communication, probably. Its fine.

So I have 1 brand new tire, 1 tire with x amount of tread left, and 2 winter tires? Lol, Would I still be fine getting only 2 tires? or should I get 3?

The passenger side has lots of tread, so there was no point of changing it. Driver side had a slash through it and instead of getting it fixed, we just replaced it. This was done like 2 months before you bought the car.

When you replace tires on an AWD, you should replace all and make sure the tread is matching.

Mike, I'd save up and buy a set of 4 tires. Better safe than sorry my friend!

I just got a nice set of Star specs through Tire Rack (apparently these aren't available in Canada).

I have to agree with Jay, my car was doing weird sh!t when my tires weren't matched.

my understanding with the Evo/Ralliart is if the tires are not matching the ECU/TCU (whatever) shuts off the active center diff and you'll have to go into the stealership to have it turned back on.

So 3 brand new tires, and 1 tire with say 90% tread left will cause a problem?

I bought the car like this from Deep, and he told me to just worry about the rear tires. If I have any huge issue down the road because of that 1 tire which wasn't replaced... then I'll make sure he's aware of it. I'm getting the 2 replaced on the 13th, so it's just 1 more week.

I tried to contact Fai Lee from the board about the Volk TE37s and unfortunately he doesn't carry them. He usually has pretty good prices so that kind of crushed my dreams! haha.

You definitely need 4 matching tires for any AWD car. Deep is not liable for what tires come with what car..as long as he's selling it "safetied"..the tires on the car have to pass.

It's in the new owners best interest to do their due diligence in determining what tires are on the car and if they're all matching. Nothing to do with the vendor..sorry Mike.

BUT!! not all is lost. It sounds like you got a great deal and above all of that. Bought a used car from a reputable member here. SOO...be lucky that it's ONLY tires you're looking for. Or rim and tires...but you get my point right?

Athough I agree with you Mike. I also think it's the job of the seller to inform the new owner of the status of the car and what it might need.

When I bought my car it had three different tires on and drove like sh!t, I was not aware that was an issue so when I got my safety done I only replaced one tire.
All four tires had three different levels of wear on them.
If it wasn't for the fact that I had a chat with someone who understood an awd system that I learned that I needed to replace all four.
If I had known this from the beginning then I would have replaced all four when doing the safety.

It frustrates me that these things can be hidden, and as you can probably tell I will be sh!t talking the previous owner of my car for a long time.

When you're running a business, and you have guidelines that are implemented by the government's safety standards..it's not about cutting corners and making a quick buck. It's about meeting or exceeding those standards and making an honest buck.

Thank you, The tires were above safety "standards". Ive never heard of this before(replacing all 4 on awd car) and Mike hasn't either. I always take the extra mile when selling to someone I know, Example in your case I did a Syn. Oil Change, New brake pads which met safety "standards", but I wanted you to be maintenance free in the near future. If either of us knew about the tires Earlier, I would have adjusted the price accordingly and we would have taken care of it. I won't be posting in here anymore, but just do the car a favor and buy rims

I DO want new rims on the car, but obviously this added cost did set me back a few hundred bucks. Maybe next year... lol.

What are your guys' thoughts on these? Rota Torques. They will work with OEM tire specs which is awesome.

They look OK if they were the ONLY rims you could buy...but they just don't work on the EVO x IMO.

Whatever is super light weight and as wide as the EVO can handle, I like!

If anyone is going to spend ANY money on wheels. They better out perform the stockers in dimension and in weight.

So I'll be researching to see what I like from those

Better to buy in the states, drive down on some sh!t steelies and swap them there. Leave the steelies behind.

You'll save a ton of dough.

Those ones above look like the Volk TE37's which I would love... but they are SO expensive.

For being a company that rips off wheels, Rota still makes a quality rim. I believe Reza runs a Rota wheel for his drag tires.

If I was a brand whore I would tell you to get the Volks, but I'm not, so honestly the P45R are a good choice.

If you were driving around in a fully built Supra that you've spend 60 - 80 grand on, then yes, don't cheap out on your wheels. If you are going to be tracking or dragging your Evo in a very serious manner, then yes get the Volks. If you want to compensate for having a small penis, then of course, get the Volks. But if you just want a nice looking rim, get the Rota's and enjoy. They are like $800 for the set

No, I've never had them before but researched what was the stickiest street tire that would not send me hydroplaning into a median.

They will see some autox & track use in addition to my daily commute.

But whatever I get, would have to work with the stock tire size as I just replaced them last year.

The rear fenders need to be rolled for anything above 265 width, according to my research.

I'm on stock height with stock tires, so no rubbing issues here. I don't think I will ever get wider tires as the 245/40/18's seem plenty enough for my taste, but I see that a lot of guys do go 265-275.

I have gotten a lot of compliments so far with my RPF1's, even had one guy follow me into a gas station so he could check my car out.

They're actually a knock-off of the WORK Emotion CR-KAI, but the ROTA's are half the price (probably half the quality too. ).

Yeah, some of the Evo guys on the Facebook group aren't a fan of Rota's.. but I really don't see an issue on a daily driver.

I can't justify spending 2000+ on Volk Rays, or anything similar.

I bought them for my car because I wanted to go with a more aggressive look, but ended up changing my mind all together.
