Bye Bye C16

Bye Bye C16 - October 24, 2009 04:43 pm UTC

Just received the following letter in my E-mail:
Quote
Hello: motor sport enthusiasts.

Hope this letter finds you all well.

This is a reminder that leaded race fuel may no longer be available as of January 1st 2010. According to federal Gasoline Regulations documents from the Department of the Environment, regulations were amended in 1994 to add a 2 1/2-year exemption for leaded gasoline imported, for use in competition vehicles.

This exemption has been extended three times, in 1997, 1998 and 2003. Then it was extended Dec. 31; 2007.This exemption will no longer be in place as of Jan. 1, 2010.

There are other factors involved with the proposed ban on leaded gas. How will it be enforced? Will there be government officials at each and every racetrack, checking the fuel cells of each race vehicle?

The document can be found on the Government of Canada website, under Canada Gazette Part 1, Dec. 22, 2007.

Please feel free to contact me at any time for further information

Time to stock up! or hope for more local E85 Pumping stations.
On a positive note, I would imagine non-leaded race fuels will be availble still.

I believe VP is the only one left using leaded fuel (at least locally)
You can run OCF. They aren't leaded and you can get 110, 112 and 114 oct there.

My understanding was that C16 was the leaded swill and the Q16 was the answer to it all!!!

I switched over last week. Just adjusted my global fuel setting to compensate, and my a/fs are alot more steady now. I haven't had time to really tune with it and play with my timing, but that will come soon. I fill up at Macewen on Bank & Catherine.

Gotta love pump n meth, and haters gotta hate it more! Makes clicking off 10 second passes without race gas in full weight trim that much more impressive.

Re: Bye Bye C16 - December 03, 2009 05:06 pm UTC

I don't run out of it, I roll around with my 4 liter bottle topped off every day wink

You can add a low level light, similar to what your gas tank has, lol.

Make sure you have the fuel system to accommidate it, or you'll find yourself leaning out a much lower boost then your used to.

Here's some good info on E85 and injector choice:

Inj 100%DC 80%DC Global

720cc 40.24 lbs/min 32.20 lbs/min -18.75%
750cc 41.92 lbs/min 33.54 lbs/min -22.00%
780cc 43.60 lbs/min 34.88 lbs/min -25.00%
850cc 47.51 lbs/min 38.01 lbs/min -31.18%
880cc 49.19 lbs/min 39.35 lbs/min -33.52%
950cc 53.10 lbs/min 42.48 lbs/min -38.42%
1000cc 55.89 lbs/min 44.72 lbs/min -41.50%
1150cc 64.28 lbs/min 51.42 lbs/min -49.13%
1200cc 67.07 lbs/min 53.66 lbs/min -51.25%
1600cc 89.43 lbs/min 71.55 lbs/min -63.44%
1850cc 103.41 lbs/min 82.72 lbs/min

From that alone you can see, even with an evo3 16G you'd need at least 950s to max it out without reaching 100% duty cycles.

Note: Injectors smaller than 720cc are not recommended for E85.
