"Clank" on hard braking

"Clank" on hard braking - July 29, 2003 06:17 pm UTC

Heres the scoop. If I take off somewhat fast out of first, I hear what sounds like clanking coming from the passenger side front tire. Then if I brake hard it does the same. But if I brake very lightly it does nothing. Its as if something is slipping in and out of place. Again if I accelerate or brake slowly, nothing happens. Its not a rotational thing and it does happen if I turn but only if one of the above conditions are true (fast acceleration/braking) so I doubt its an axle issue (boot looks good too). Ive read on DSMtalk that it could be caliper pins that hold the caliper in place are off but thats only one thread out of the many Ive searched. Can anyone confirm this or have any other ideas?

I had that problem yesterday and found a full can of pepsi under my passenger seat laugh

But on a more helpful note, it sounds like something could be loose and if you decelerate hard enough it swings hard enough to hit something. Not much help, but a thought at least.

You raise a good point Noah....I'll check for a loose pop can ASAP rotate

I dont think anything is loose. I patched and cleaned out my IC on the weekend and while I had my wheel off, checked for loose bars or anything out of place but everything looks normal.

Could be a few things. If the ball joint is working its way out, the lower control arm will clank (happened to me). If the swaybar bushings are shot, the swaybar may also clank.
