I'm so jacked for DSM weather

I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 13, 2011 11:31 am UTC

I see some goods signs that it is soon time to awake the still slumbering beast.

We have lost all but a few minor traces of snow. The street sweepers have been out in full force the last 2 nights trying to clean up this winter mess we got this year. There has been too much salt mixed sand still on our roads here I haven't dared really drive it yet.

I did bring it to the garage at our taxi stand to get some work done. I ordered the 2nd ignition coil I still needed to replace. Also ordered my exhaust gasket and manifold stuff from Ziggy's website last night. I have also ordered a wideband kit so I can get accurate readings.

I'm really looking forward to getting all my parts and get this done and ready in the next 2 weeks!! I'm so looking forward to that first good rip of the season.

Just my rant for the morning

I hear you Luke. I see all the hondas out in full force in my area and it breaks my little dsm heart. My engines still on the stand and my cars on blocks. smile I am hoping the weather holds off this weekend so i can drop in the heart of my beast. I am aiming to have it on the road in the next 2 weeks but we will see how it goes. I need to do emmissions :S

I'm loving having the car on the road, I started driving it Monday, and I won't be looking back. Even if we get some freak dump of snow I will still be out!

New clutch, fixed downpipe, and slightly upgraded methanol setup for me, along with speed density - should be a good summer smile

Yeah they're all sprouting out around here... plus too many Sunfires here.

The ricers haven't really started to come out where I live yet, but in this area it's mostly yahoo's with big muddin trucks and pimped out tractors. I sort of stand out... lol.

Ryan L and I have been plugging away diligently at my DSM getting her ready to pass safety, while at the same time fixing all kinds of strange problems. Mr. Dekking, I know you bought the car this way; you're right, you had absolutely no idea what you go yourself into. lol. We've been rewiring the entire interior, there was a lot of weird sh!t going on in there.

Left to install for me, new FMIC pipes, AEM 50 psi digital boost guage, new AEM wideband sensor. Otherwise, it's just a matter of cleaning the engine bay to make her feel pretty again.

Re: I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 13, 2011 03:38 pm UTC

I'm already DD'ing my car and have been for about 3 weeks now. I've finally got my ignition breakup issue solved, so I can at least dial in a tune, which I'm getting close to nailing.

Then Speed Density.

I have a bunch of wiring left to do, a lot of things (albeit done right) are done temporarily until I can find the time to get it done. I have mucho plans this year in the wiring department, including a race harness (I've got a full 2G AWD Auto engine harness stripped in a box) with Mil-Spec connectors.

Still have the Evo 3 Intake to install, Evo Beehive springs/retainers to install, my CAI....

Ugh, I thought I already did my spring build....

Upgrades were decent this year including a dumped 38mm off the O2, bigger FMIC, more meth (Dual M7), Alternator relocation.

I have to install the front 2 piston brakes and rotors, Clutch install along with nwe to me trans, FMIC from VRSpeed, gauges WB Boost (along with manual boost controller) and oil temp and new 2g exhaust mani with 16g small turbo...oh and reassemble the engine thats going in where that big hole is at the moment. Should be back on the road again next month frown I miss driving it even thought I am loving the milage of my TDI

I don't think I need to share the novel of work I still have to do on my Talon before it goes back on the road.
Just over another week till I head out there to really plug away at her.

Alex, can you send me a log of your car to milcan21@hotmail.com?

I'm going to try the EVO8 GSR Ralliart fuel maps over the next day or two, see how well it likes meth and what I have to tweak. wink

I have one for stock fuel maps but not yet for EVO. I will do one tonight and email to you! Final fuel settings are -47.7(850cc), Deadtime 330, FPR 44psi. Trims are now near zero and WOT finally make sense.

True, but on a 6000 rpm launch with no lift to shift, open loop is nowhere to be found demon

All my hopes and dreams for DSM season have come to a screeching halt this weekend....

We got a nasty snowfall again. Started Friday night as rain and around midnight it turned to snow. And it pretty much continued to snow all day Saturday too and windy so it was blowing around.

Not a happy DSMer at all!!! frown

Nope, never broken one (knock on wood)...I find that any RPM level below 5750, with the size turbo I am running, causes the car to bog out on the launch. 5750 and higher and it hooks really good wink The only transmission upgrade I have is a 4-spider center diff from Jacks. I'd say I did about 50-75 launches like this last year, with no problems (other than my clutch slipping last time out to the track)

4k launches worked well for my in FWD mode with 235/45/17 Nitto's up front. Any less and it bogged too much with the 50 trim, any higher and it just sat there at the line.

Mike is AWD. Actually all 4 members from NL on here have AWD cars.

I'm going to start prepping my car for summer this weekend and next week. Can't wait!!!

Thanks Jason. I wasnt sure what to set mine up for launch with fwd. I will try 4k and go from there. I believe my turbo is a 60 mm w/84 trim. I will probably never get off the line smile

Not to get off topic, but I couldn't help but notice that box of Brava, "The beer of Summer".

...sooooooo, how is it? smile

Tasty? Never tried it.
Posted By: Tim Sedore

Re: I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 25, 2011 08:17 pm UTC

haha. Thats my parts box. Its actually pretty good beer. Very similar to MDG. The price was right last summer so i bought some. I think it was 24 for $24. I would and have bought it since.

Thats one of the most important tools when working on a car. It helps numb the pain smile I know i will slip off and smack my knuckles off something. Jap cars are tight in that engine bay

Re: I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 25, 2011 08:20 pm UTC

Brava, similar to MGD? You're crazy man. Lol

similar just not as good. Its not bad actually. You dont like it?
Posted By: Michael Lee

Re: I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 25, 2011 08:33 pm UTC

I will give it a go if it's still cheap.

I never liked Coronas before, but they're starting to grow on me. NO LIME though.

Regularly I drink Canadian, and Keith's.

Japanese engine bays aren't the only thing that's "tight" over there. wink

Re: I'm so jacked for DSM weather - April 25, 2011 08:34 pm UTC

Brava isn't TOO bad. I'll drink it, but I'm slowly weening myself off of beer. Gets me all gassy frown

But I'm getting really effing sick of this rain. Every night I have time to work on my car, it's raining out.

If I may beer snob for a moment..
Brava is just a decoy to keep people from drinking my imported tall cans tongue
On the pee scale it is similar to MGD but with meagre anesthetic properties. It really should come with a coupon for Tylenol, for the next day.

And F the rain!!! mad

I mainly drink Wiser's as well. But the Keiths? Keiths is the second worst beer I could ever possibly drink. It's only 2nd to Keith's white. Both beers taste like a chemical factory to me.

Have no idea Mike. Did one pull, turned the corner and she stalled. Had to get it towed. All I could smell under the hood was burnt clutch frown

Either the clutch is defective or the car is making too much power for the 2100 which I find hard to believe.

Mill Street's Tank House Ale is tasty, but has to be cold.

As far as beers from different regions goes, it all depends on your tastes.

I find Heineken to taste like B.O. (body odour). Kinda gross.

Of the stouts, kilkenny is pretty good, not a big fan of guinness.

For exotic beers you guys must try Delirium. You can't get it everywhere, but I believe Bier Markt has it, and Sin & Redemption bar down on Dundas St., between University and Spadina, has it.

Tiger beer's not bad, and I forget the name, but some Indian beer I tried was excellent.

Surprisingly TALL bottles of Corona are tastier than the regular bottles. Odd.

Kokanee is a crisper version of Canadian, I like that too.

Occasionally I'll have a Blue if that's on sale. Pilsners are okay once in a while, but too "sour" if you will at times.

I still think Bud is disgusting, but whatever. MGD is always great, but must be cold or it tastes really sour as well.

Anyways I'm thinking we should start a separate thread about beer? lol

I can handle one of them, then they just gross me out!

I like India Pale Ale or Blue Star, both of which are Newfoundland beers that I don't think you can get outside the Province.

Molson Export is decent, and some of the Sleeman's are ok
