I'm back...... - July 20, 2015 03:58 pm UTC

Hello All.

I bought my 1st DSM (1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD) back in 1998. It was a money lemon pit. 9K paid for car. 14,000 in repairs to keep it near stock. Was horrible. So what did I do? in 2003 I bought a 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Only 7K and was mildly modded (3" cat back, 16g, 550cc, etc) I sold it as I needed a reliable vehicle to travel 1600KM every 2 weeks. I bought a 300C. I have been missing the talon ever since.

So here I am. Just purchased a 1998 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. She needs a little love. But the body panels, underside and interior are in great condition. Newly rebuilt 6bolt. Some rust underneath, but nothing some time and a wire wheel can't fix. You can see mods in m dsm profile. http://www.dsmtuners.com/dsm-profiles/alwsbrkn.12223/

There are few trouble spots.

#1. Front Rad Support severely rotted out. The previous owner had a piece or rebar welded across (and even to centermember).. and now that I have tranny issue, I can't yank it out without fixing that first.

#2. Driver side strut tower rusted through but not bad enough it needs a new tower. (between fender and just before it slopes.

#3. Slow spool (full boost at 5500-5700) expecting more around 4700.

Those are my priorities.. but I bought the car with a slightly notchy tranny. 2 days later, I now get gear gear lockout at stops. Getting it into gear requires rev matching or luck. (shifts fine with car turned off) I'll post about it in the appropriate section.

My first talons had them worked on by mechanics. This is one I am doing as much myself as I can. (but I can't weld, so... body / frame shop for the rust fixes).

I'm glad to be back. Sad that the car has fatal tranny issue only 2 days out of if since purchase. But I expected it. Just not this soon.

Welcome back! I have a feeling nobody truly leaves DSMs forever.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, and I'll tune in over in the appropriate section, but your issue sounds more like a clutch issue than transmission, if that makes you feel any better smile

Welcome back! Agreed with Jeremy, I had the same symptoms when one of my springs in my clutch decide to come loose.
