I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 06, 2015 07:25 pm UTC

Finally... After 8 years I can finally say I found the DSM I've been searching for.

One of my best friends works with a guy in his late 40's that's owned it off lease since 1995. It's never seen a winter, never seen snow. It's fair weather driven only, hardly ever sees rain and garage kept. 93k kms all original on the clock, the only mods include a full Apexi N1 exhaust, ACT clutch, and 1" drop lowering springs. Thankfully it's a non-ABS car, cloth interior. The word clean does not begin to describe it, I can't believe I own it now.

Never was posted for sale. I love it smile

Here are pics as we got it on the trailer, will post more once I'm home. The 16's have not a bit of oxidation on them and brand new tires, he also threw in 3G 17's that were on the car for most of its recent life. I have the full stock exhaust too!

Yeah. I am extremely happy with the thing. It drives so nice too! I've never gotten to experience such a fresh and stock car and see what they are like from the factory.

I am definitely thankful to be owning this right now and I plan to keep it for a long time to come. This is not something that comes up everyday that's for sure.

I washed the car tonight, and the paint shines great. It is rough to the touch so it needs to be clay barred, polished and waxed to look even better. However for a 22 year old car (built May 1993) it still looks great.

I took it out for a drive and it drives like a brand new car. No funky smells, no weird noises. No clunks, no squeals, not a single fracking rattle... it's quiet and rides great and smooth on the H&R springs.

For plans, it's staying the way it is for some time to come. Of course I plan to do the regular preventative maintainace. Full timing belt job, new accessory belts, all the fluids drained and replaced, new brakes all the way around, under coated, and all the seals and trims protected to keep it as fresh as possible for a long time to come.

This isn't something that comes around often so I want to take really good care of it.

That car is amazing, I love the grey rims. The strut bar is aftermarket right, I didn't think they came with them from factory?

It does look even cleaner than mine! slightly lower km too. Sweet find. I can still hold a 6 bolt over your head though.

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 09, 2015 03:29 am UTC

Thanks guys.

Yeah the strut tower bar was added of course, I wouldn't call that a "mod" though as I can remove it in about 30 seconds lol

And yeah it's a 7 bolt. But it has no ABS, factory bigger brakes, and rear LSD. It's so clean it doesn't matter to me if it came with a 7 bolt, a 6 bolt, or a no-bolt.

I'm not one to pick a 7 over a 6 but the 7 bolt in here is plenty strong for my plans... Aka not many.

Drop an internally gated FP 68HTA in there and call it a day! smile

That way you can stay "stock" and clean.

It was "inserted" into the Matrix, and Lucian came across it, which means it was for him.

That means he did something right/good recently. smile

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 28, 2015 12:41 pm UTC

Thanks guys. I did a few things on it, I installed the weighted leather OEM knob I've been hoarding for a few years on it. I changed the brakes since the fronts had a seized caliper and warped a rotor, so it has new 2G calipers, new ceramic pads and new rotors. I bought the hybrid stainless brake lines to mate the 1G chassis to the 2G caliper, the lines are black so they look factory. I also have rear black stainless lines that need to go on as well. The rear brakes were recently changed, they look and function like new. It's also the first DSM I have that not only has a working hand brake, but 3 clicks holds it up a steep driveway smile

I clay barred it and waxed it, although it will receive a full proper detail in the spring.

It drives much better without the dragging caliper. It's on wastegate pressure, so 9psi but it creeps to about 12 and pulls really well for stock smile

Here are some pics, Jeremy came to visit.

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 28, 2015 03:32 pm UTC

Looking great! Why wastegate pressure and not stock EBCS pressure (12-13)?
Posted By: Bryan Lawrence

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 28, 2015 03:40 pm UTC

I thought it was the other way around.
When my factory controller was setup I was at 7.
Posted By: Lucian Marta

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 28, 2015 03:47 pm UTC

Previous owner removed the EBCS so the car doesn't have it, it's just wastegate pressure. 12-ish PSI is what they should run from the factory IIRC.

Judging by the whine, I am confident the car has a Walbro pump in the tank. I will take it out and check. I would imagine it's a 190LPH, since a 255 would overrun the stock FPR and it doesn't seem to be the case.

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - September 28, 2015 05:56 pm UTC

yeah plus FP gauge isn't going to tell you what pump it is, he just needs to take a peak.

So only thing done is that basic boost gauge and the turbo timer?
Posted By: Jeremy Gilbert

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - October 15, 2015 01:24 pm UTC

I think he finally caved and slapped in an MBC. Stock boost is only fun for about a week or two... wink
Posted By: Lucian Marta

Re: I Relapsed... 93k 1993 AWD - October 15, 2015 08:23 pm UTC

Yah that's all the interior has. The boost gauge which I may remove and put in the center bezel, I have an Autometer vacuum/boost to use. It has the HKS turbo timer and some different radio. Oh and the weighted leather Mitsubishi shift knob I bought and hoarded from the old days when they were $30 smile

The rest of the car is on the H&R springs, Apexi N1 turboback with a cat so it's actually pretty quiet, strut tower bar in the front, the Walbro pump as I'm suspecting, and a MBC now at 14psi.
