To sell complete or part out??

To sell complete or part out?? - October 25, 2004 06:11 pm UTC

Hello everyone!

So my 1992 Talon tsi awd has been sitting for the past 3 months since I blew the headgasket. I've been seriously thinking of getting rid of it as I bought a 99 explorer for the mean time. The body has just reasontly been painted (and new body parts put on) costing over $3500.00, this is the reason I've been putting it off.

Basically if I can get a reasonable amount for the car I'd consider just selling the whole thing, but what would be a reasonable amount?

- Transmission reasonantly replaced (shifts great)
- new shocks from and back (GR2's in front AGX's in back) lowered 1.5"
- Turbo back 2.5" exhaust
- UICP with TurboSmart VeePort BOV
- MAF-T with 3" MAF
- Data Logger
- Killer 17" rims with new tires (get compliments all the time, even with it sitting here collecting dust!)
- Sparco Seat
- 3" custom chrome intake pipe with filter
- 14b spins like a dream

I've replaced so many other stock parts with new its not funny (well not to any of us anyways!)

So I'm either looking at selling the whole thing and basically someone could just drop a JDM in there and drive away, or rebuild the JDM that is in there. Or, start parting it out...

What would you think is a reasonable amount for the car, basically minus the engine?

BTW I was going to post this in the sell section but I'm not really ready for selling, just trying to get you're opinion on how much I could sell it for. Thanks.

You will never get your mod money out of the car selling it all in one piece. check www.autotrader.ca for average prices of a 92. If its just a head gasket, you'd have an easier time of replacing the HG than parting it all out.

With 3500 in paint alone plus all the mods you'd be hard pressed to get anywhere near your money back. Plus if you try and sell it here...it will be worse. These guys are some cheap-ass bugers bird

Fix it and drive the snot out of it. demon That is how you'll get the best bang for your bucks. wink

HG is not that much and only takes a little quality time to replace. naughty

Body looks way to good to part.

This is my buck and a half. laugh

Nobody wants your buck and a half frenchie! bird I'll take the whole car from you for $100 bux lol

Seriously though, a head gasket is at most a 5 hour job with the help of a friend and a manual. keep the car, its looking good!

Ahhh geeze guy's don't do this to me frown I love the car, really I do, its been 3 years of fun. I've taken the car from not great condition, to mint shape, and I've had a blast... BUT I don't have as much time to tinker with it as I use to. The other major problem I have is storage, right now the car is at work, we push it out in the morning and push it back in at night, and we all know what these damn things are like to push!

Here's what I'm thinking of doing, selling the car, selling my 99 explorer and buying a WRX. They've finally come down to a reasonable price, one can be gotten for $20,000 - $25,000. I love my talon, really some of you know how much, but its only a car, and really, if I got to drive a WRX all year long, I think I'd still be a happy camper! I've put so much tlc into that car, but its still a 12 year old car, driving the Xploader has taught me that as much as I love it, its nice to be able to put the key in and not worrying about going, something we all generally worry about. You've got to cut you're losses somewhere (I totalled up how much I've spent in three years on that car and it totals almost what I could buy the WRX for)

I really appreciate you're support (and Ghislain's $1.50, I'll be waiting for the cheque in the mail!!) What I really want to know is how much I could get for this car? Tough question to answer I know, seeing as it depends on the buyer in this situation. I'd consider parting it out if someone bought the shell.

This isn't definate either, I'm impulsive and I have a right to change my mind damn it!! laugh But right now its looking like a good descision, I mean come on, I'm not saying I'm selling the talon for a Chevy Sprint or anything!! smile

Hey Mike, love the car. Wish it was april then I would buy it from you right now. Depending on the shape of the underbody I would say you "could" get 3500-4500 (if the car is fixed)for this car with the rims. But like others said were all cheap asses on the board and would probably not give you that. Also if you do sell it fix the hg first, you'll get more for it. Also if you keep it until the spring let me know I want to sell my FWD and go AWD so I would be definatly be interested.

Hahaha, thanks for all the support guy's, believe or not, YET AGAIN you all have convinced me to keep the car. I went out and test drove a WRX, and as nice of a car it is to drive, its just too damn slow. I don't really feel like spending 20 grand on a car and have to put more money into it. The look on the sales man's face though was priceless

Me: "I like it but its not that fast"
Him: "No ones ever said that to me...?"

I'm also keeping it because every time I walk by the car I get all flustered like she was a super hot woman! So looks like I'll be fixing her up in the spring and she'll be rippen up the streets for another year!

And as far as it being worth 3500 fixed, I could part it out for more then that, the rims and tires are practically worth that new! But I also know that as a whole, were all cheap asses smile

Thanks for the support guy's... This isn't a DSM car club... Its a DSM Support Group laugh

He he, reminds me of the time I test drove one and asked the sales man "OK, wheres my helmet, lets rock". He laughed with a worried look in his eye.

Shifting at redline, WOT between lights, 80km/hr corners, hard hard breaking etc.........I asked him "you sure this is the turbo model? Seems a bit weak." tu

LOL! First words the salesman said to me "Want to take it for a rip" and rip it I did! Same thing you were doing Rob, only I took it one step further. He asked me how to launch an awd car, hehe so I showed him smile I think I scared the **** out him that day, poor guy it was only his 3rd week in car sales.
