awd tranny's - April 21, 2006 01:52 am UTC
i have a 90 tsi awd and my tranny is a little messed. jus wondering if i could use any 1g awd tranny or if it had to be a 90. thanx
A 90 tranny has different brackets that attach to the tranny and also uses a different shifter base and cables that run to the tranny. In my car i used a 90 tranny by just changing 2 bracket that hold the cables in place. I'm unsure of how you go the other way.
Your best bet would be to use a 90 Tranny.
I think the 90 also have a different ratio than the 91 on.
Anybody here could confirm this???

i think I used a 90 rear end with a 92 tranny at one point. But the spline count might be different.
People drop JDM's in both 90s and 91+s so they have to mate well.

One of the arms for the shift lever is different. The shift throw will change as a result if you use the wrong one.
All transfercases match with all rear ends, but you have to be careful of the spline couint where the tcase and tranny connect, or just swap the output shaft on the tranny, it's a 10 minute job.
