is we GO or NO GO?

is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:14 am UTC

GO!

Well, good morning.

It's chilly out, but that's what turbo racing loves the best. smile

The track called, they're going for it, but predicting a late start. They're apparently used to this sort of uncertainty, and just "go with it".

So, what he said is they won't be ready to run, until at least 11 or 12 (they have surface prep to do after the weather yesterday), but will run later for us (until 5 or 6), so we're not losing out.

There is still a chance of rain later in the day, but by 10 or 11, we will have a more firm grasp on that.

I am no weatherman, but looking at Radar maps, and precip maps, everything to the south and west of us is clear, and the wind is from the South West.
Yes, it could change.
But what I am trying to do, is not waste your day, but at the same time, not have us miss out here. smile

In any case, we're having a DSM day, no matter what.
Ziggy brought over a TON of homemade food last night, that we plan to BBQ on my back deck, at some point today, with perhaps the odd cold one. smile (so, someone has to eat it!)

----

Here's the plan:

Most everyone knows, Mud & Hwy 20, just up the escarpment from Stoney Creek and the QEW.

See next post, gotta get you reading...

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:17 am UTC

QEW to Centennial Parkway, heading away from the lake, towards Cayuga, you go through about 10 mins of the city, and then up the escarpment.

The first traffic light up on the escarpment, is Mud Street.
The Tim Horton's / Wendy's, that everyone usually meets at, is there, on your left. (turn left at the lights)

We'll add a bit of time, and meet everyone there at around 9:30am-9:45am or so. (so you can relax if you were about to pull out in a hurry!)

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:19 am UTC

Across the street, on Centennial/20, just North of the lights, there is "The Egg and I", a local "good breakfast place".
We can grab a bite to eat, and then call in to the track again for an update around 10am.
(so save your appetite)

So the GTA guys will be arriving at Cayuga around 11?

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:21 am UTC

Again, this may turn into a bit of "sitting around", but if all else fails, and we end up cancelling, we'll hit the indoor go-karts in Hamilton when they open at noon, and then back to my place for BBQ lunch mid-afternoon.

Even if the weather SUCKS... I've got enough space that we'll be good.

What way are you coming down Dan?
Posted By: Andrew Bienhaus

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:23 am UTC

If Highway 8, do you know how to hook up with the 403, just outside of Ancaster?

If so, you could run across 403, to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway ("the Linc"), which becomes Mud St, and would get you to us...

Or we could phone you, if you have a caravan with you... smile

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:27 am UTC

Personally, I don't think it's worth it to go and hope its not going to rain. 90% chance is a pretty good chance it will rain

I would just hate to get there. get a run or 2 in and they be caught in pouring rain and the day is done

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:28 am UTC

Just got off the phone with Mike. Neither of us really wants to drive into Hamilton so we will meet you their. We are leaving the K-Town at 9:30am and should be arriving at Cayuga around 11:00 - 11:15am.

I can't wait boys!!!!!!!

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:32 am UTC

Dan - Can you email me your Cell #?
In case we get called off.

And James - this is the reality of this time of year, however, what we're NOT trying to do, is pay, and then get cancelled. If we get called off before startup, because of weather, we're not out anything other than a few bank fees. smile

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:34 am UTC

Oh yeah Andy, i completely understand
Id just hate to end up paying $25 a run
if you know what i mean
Posted By: Andrew Bienhaus

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:34 am UTC

Exactly James.
Don't trust the weather report 100% though...

This close to Lake Erie, it can shift and change, quite literally, in the matter of an hour or two.

---

The alternative is also obvious...

If they look good at the track at 11am, but need more work time, we can have the BBQ at my place for LUNCH, and then head out there.

(I'm only 5 mins off the beaten track to Cayuga)

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 11:43 am UTC

Absolutely.
At my place here (about 20 mins from the track), it's a mixture of blue sky, and clouds.

It really could go either way.

In any case, we're still having a DSM Day, either way.

Mike, I also sent him your cell # since we are riding in seperate cars.

I'm going to pass on the breakfast at Egg & I (although I LOVE their farmer's omelette)!! I will meet up with you guys later, hopefully at the track. I am still WAY behind on my work since the vacation to Germany, moving home, and other personal issues! I am looking forward to a DSM day one way or the other, but would really LOVE to see some DSM's do what they do best!!!

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 12:25 pm UTC

I have to back out in the last minute. I'm screwed. Late last night things didn't go well while working on the car. I lost an injector o-ring among other things. Damm!!! mad

Andrew, since I have committed to go, I'm willing to pay the full fee to cover track expenses.

Ziggy, I'll drop off your ecu Saturday PM if you're available.

Have fun everyone!!!

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 01:03 pm UTC

Dennis, sorry to hear...

You know I have injector O rings here, right??

In any case, Saturday is fine for the ecu, I am not in a rush, just thought this was a good chance to meet up...I can wait until next Yorkdale meet if that is better for you.

If you ARE coming, always best to call first - 905-383-8230

Well this is definately a first. I've never packed my winter jacket, gloves and a touque in my car prior to heading out to the drag stip before.

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 01:12 pm UTC

Looks like Mark M & I are a no-go. I don't like to trust the weatherman but 90% chance of rain this afternoon isn't worth the risk for a 2+ hour drive for us, was looking forward to this...
Posted By: Mike Jackson

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 01:14 pm UTC

The problem is lake effect snow/rain will be running right up over the shore of Lare Erie today. The closer to the short (Dunnville) the higher the risk.

We might get lucky.

But now there is also a high wind weather warning for the area.

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 01:37 pm UTC

Whats the predicted turn out boys? i may try and make it later in the day, see how it turns out.
Have fun! Try not to break anything, oh wait this is a dsm event! haha

Take Care Guys!

Re: is we GO or NO GO? - October 13, 2006 02:00 pm UTC

ok, well, it doesn't look like the weather is going to hold...

hourly prediction says that after 11am it's going to rain the rest of the day... plus the snow that's hitting fort erie, its just a mess everywhere and not getting better.

so, well, mark broke his car this moning, so we're headed to my place to fix it... and then will have big bbq lunch, party, laughs, fun... everyone welcome!

371 Binbrook road
Glanbrook (Hamilton)

call if you can't find it on a map... we'll post again if we make plans for gokarting for after lunch.

I agree with him too.
I also understand, it is hard to reschedule.
Please update about how many dsmers are there?
If I only knew earlier, you might go to kart track if the Cayuga wouldn’t work…!!! mad

We're still a go for our event tomorrow. There sayin cloudy and chilly. Here's an idea; why don't all you guys that were going to go today, come tomorrow. The more, the merrier. Our "Super Street" class could use some more 12 second guys. We figure if we don't do it tomorrow the next 2 saturdays could be even worse.

Tru, tru, but this wasn't the drag strip. So in this case you would have had pole position, but still came in 7th in the group lol

Hey guys,

Thankfully (for the sake of Interac/PayPal charges) I was able to cut cheques to a bunch of you on Friday, to refund you your deposit.

However, for the rest of you, please email me with your mailing address so I can send you a cheque.

webmaster@ca.dsm.org

Thanks!

(I won't post a list of who you are, for safety reasons)

You know paypal lets you do a refund within something like 30 days, and they even refund the fees! You just have to make sure you do it as a "refund" of the existing payment, not just a new payment in the other direction....I don't know if certa pay does similar, but my bank (Royal) is right now offering me to do free certa pay payments until the end of the year...
