Logging software and info - one stop shop - February 21, 2005 08:51 am UTC

LOGGING SOFTWARE:

MMCd - Ver 1.6n this with a palm and cable is all you need.

ver 1.5B an older version if you want to tinker with it or even ver 1.3

MMCd tools for viewing your logs in excel
TMO zip file for use on laptop or desktop if you have a really long cable

Pocket logger - the real deal for those that arent too cheap to spend the cash

I have the Palm n stein and tunerstein files but there is really no reason to use these unfinished tools. The MMCd software has come a long way and may only be surpassed by pocketlogger as far a palm logging goes.

LOGGING INFO:

MMCd Home page - includes info on supported handhelds and making a cable

MMCd homepage copy of the original just in case the above isnt available

TMO info faq from an old site here in MS Word doc format - logger and tuner 101 type info along with some tunerstein info as well

More MMCd info in a post from Sean

PALMS, PARTS AND OS:

Factory direct for refurbed or new palms

Canada Computers for refurbed or new palms

Cheap Palm liquidators out of Markham + parts - it has a new Palm IIIxe with 4.1 OS for $58 buxs

Palm Medic - parts, cables, cradles etc out of Ottawa DIY repairs and parts

Palm.com for software and user manuals etc

I have the 4.1 OS upgrade but it is a 6MB file and may or may not keep it availabe for download.
Freeware Palm downloads for general palm apps and utilities

Someone needs to make a good free logger software for 2g. Palm'n'stein isn't bad, but could be alot better.

Apparently the 1.8 version isn't compatible with the MMCD Tools. Is there a fix yet for this?

If you're handy with Google, you can find other examples too.

Does any one know any software (laptop) for a 2G, just to see if it connects to the OBDII?
I got a cable, and used a program for evos (which is supposed to work on the 2G) but I get an error saying it cant initialize the OBDII or some thing..
Any ways I just want to test and see if this cable works..

side note: Does the car have to run, in order to conenct to ecu? I just turned the key in the ON position, as my car will not start on its own right now...

This should do it. I got an adapter from the Source(radio shack) and it doesn't work, so I just ordered a keyspan off ebay for $25.

The Keyspan manufacturer is right there in Guelph.
Call them up, they'll tell you their local supplier.

I think it was $35 for me. Got it the next day.

I flashed a Palm IIIe using Palm Desktop and got Pocketlogger going.

Re: Logging software and info - one stop shop - October 24, 2009 04:40 pm UTC

Really? you can do that? I have palm III version 3.0 and re MMCD required 3.5. I can see the icon but cant open it.
I was looking for a palm III software version 3.5 to updated it.
Can you give me a quick run down on how to flash it using the palm desktop?

Re: Logging software and info - one stop shop - October 24, 2009 05:12 pm UTC

Sure!

- Take the batteries out for a while to reset the Palm (you'll lose your data).

- Install the Palm Desktop software on your PC.

- Run the Palm Desktop program and click on "Quick Install" (at the left of the window).
It might ask you for a username now or later, it shouldn't matter what you pick.

- Drag the MMCd install files from explorer into the quick install window.

- If there is no "hot sync" icon in the system tray (at the right of the taskbar), run the HotSync Manager program.

- Right click on the hot sync icon and make sure that "Local Serial" is selected (for serial cable) or "Local USB" (for USB cable).

- Put the batteries in the Palm, start it up, plug it into the computer and sync it.

That should get MMCd onto your Palm.

//edit
Crap. I just realized that you're trying to do more than just sync with your PC, I think..
Can't hurt to try though, maybe the newer Palm Desktop will allow it to work?

Way to bring back something from the dead, but what is THE logger of choice for a 2G if you don't have Link?

Edit: I've read that palm emulators are used on notebooks these days instead of palm devices?

I prefer the Palm on a 1G I tried a few things on my laptop with little succes.

I personally would recommend a blue tooth device with torque, that is assuming you either have an Android or iFone.

Edit: Turns out that torque doesn't work for iFone, but there are other apps that you have

Yeah I recall you guys discussing this bluetooth device that hooks up to the OBDII port, and it works with Android devices.

I downloaded the app on my old phone, but switched to a Windows phone.

Might be switching back if this app as a logger works as well as whatever 2G users are using.

isnt the proper cable for evoscan only like 35 bucks and 20 for evosca? Not the open port 2.0 but the 1.3?, or even a free program like mutscan.
