Palm software dsmlinkv2 to EcmLink V3 ECU

Palm software dsmlinkv2 to EcmLink V3 ECU - November 02, 2016 01:55 am UTC

Has anybody been able to get the dsmlinkvII Palm software to talk to a EcmLink V3 ECU.

I forsee 2 issues:
1. The new cable is not a Serial cable end connector. This means that there is probably a keyspan adapter somewhere in the cable. As Thomas has indicated in the past: "So you have an RS232 device on one end (your ECU) and a USB slave device (the hot sync cable) on the other. There's NO way to connect those two pieces."
2. Does the VersionII Palm software perform a check for only v2 Ecu confirmation. I guess only the creator of the software knows (anybody knows who wrote the palm software?)

So does anybody know of a way to get this to work?
Or maybe we can get the source code and create a new Palm Link V3?

Just seeing if anybody out there has solved this yet.

I don't think anyone is even attempting any sort of palm interface on V3. With the availability of cheap Windows tablets and having the full V3 interface at your finger tips there isn't any desire for the palm software.

Have to agree with Jason, why don't you want a laptop?

If it's because of the size you can get a smaller tablet.

The answer is simple - Functionality.

There was some tools that I used that are not in the windows application, now for legal reasons, that are on the Palm application. Those tools are valuable every 2 years for some of us that live in cities.

Yeah I can get a emulator open and get the app running on a laptop, but there are connection issues that are technical in nature that I think limit the capability of connected to the V3.

I might try another route on this endeavour unless someone has already figured it out.

Ah I see. I know others are getting around those "reasons" on V3. I have no experience with that though.

"Reasons" are easy to get around with a 2 speed idle test.

Thanks for that info. I've already had some people from the DSM community reach out to me with some suggestions of accomplishing what I need with the new ECU.

The DSM community/users is always great for helping out. Thanks guys, keep it up!!

You have to enlighten us on this magic Palm buttom. Because I don't understand why someone would want to waste there time trying to get a hotsync cable to communicate with a usb. Other then the fact they dont want to buy a proper link cable and use a laptop.

With V2 cable you where able to still use the Palm sync to connect to the ECU. Also there is a dsmlinkv2 palm software as well.
As I moved to V3 it came with a new cable that had a usb to serial adapter built into either the board or the cable. This therefore doesn't allow the Palm to communicate to the ECU anymore.
I didn't end up getting it to work but rather got other software to do what I needed it to do from my laptop (I'll leave it at that, PM me if you want details).
