1g front suspension, More travel needed

My car is lowered quite a bit and I am running into some travel issues.
My koni inserts and old school DSS setup seems to only have maybe 3 inches of travel before it completely bottoms out the shock.

Is there any other koni inserts with a shorter shock body that I could use?

Or any other setups/suggestions?

The honda kids raise the top mount for the shock. You could do that.

ah cool idea, but then I would loose my camber plates.

Not necessarily. you would essentially pull apart the camper plate so your left with the piece that looks similar to the above, then cut out the part that has the bearing in it and get a thick pipe and raise it up an inch or whatever you like.

How does that increase the travel? Does it not just act as a spacer, raising the car? Which is the same idea as raising the lower perch of the coil over?

I think a different set up is the right solution.

Mike take a second look, the top of the shock mount is higher but the spring perch remains in the same place this will then allow the shock to move in a better range of motion and should prevent bottoming out. I wish I could show you in person cause you would get it right away, just hard to explain.

OK I get it. But does that impose clearance issue with the hood closing?

That's a good point, it definitely could.

I suppose you could fabricate top hat spacers with that design and longer studs.

What do you mean by running into some travel issues? Are you hitting the bump stops / bottoming out the shocks? What method are you using to test how much travel you are using?

When I have my 17x10's on the car, I only have about 1" of travel before the tire makes contact with the fender. I've compensated for this by running higher spring rate.

In your case, you may just need to cut your bump stops shorter. If that doesn't do the trick, then you need more stiff springs.

What size tires are you running?

It may be my shocks are just finally completely worn out.
I removed the bump stops and still bottom out.

I just peer up into the fender and see that the shock top is quite close to the top hat at my set height.

I just don't want to get the same setup and run the shock at the very end of its travel to just kill it. Unless Koni's are ok with that?

I'm not sure if I could deal with only 1" of travel and super stiff springs.


My setup is a 17x9 with 245's 30 offset

I run 17x10 +12 w/ 275's in competition. They stick out past the fender a good inch, and do not tuck under the fenders in compression. Instead the tires will hit the fender. I have my bump stops sized so that I'm in the bump stop just before the tires contact the fenders.

On the street I just run a set of EVO 8 Enkei's w/ 245's, which of course tuck under the fenders fine.

While my Talon is not a daily driver anymore, I do not find it uncomfortable on the street.

I run 900F / 400R springs and Koni Sport shocks.

So assuming my shocks are just worn out.

Is it save to buy new Koni's and still run them at the end of their length with the bump stops reinstalled?

Or will that just destroy them? I'm not sure if they are designed to be run like that?

I forget what my springs are marked as...
