Wouldn't trust this guy (Dan) with a piece of my dog's crap let alone an engine build. He's a scammer and a trashy, arrogant excuse of a human being.

There's Rob in Belleville (ask the Quinte guys for details) who's done fantastic work for a number of the guys over there or if you don't mind the drive there's Reza at his new shop (Dynotune). Not sure who he uses for the machine work (I assume Rainbow Engines?) but there are a number of shops in the GTA that could do the build (Reza, Rainbow, Magnus, etc.).

Sal.. Although I would agree with you on some points from my own experience with him in the past but the reality is he took Tapp Auto's 10 second talon into the 9's and kept it there before swapping his powerhouse to a 1964 valiant.. Which I'm unsure if it actually hit the road.

But seriously.. It's slim pickings in the Ottawa and Gatineau area.. He's got a proper shop, the knowledge and experience. You just have to know how to deal with him. Cash on the dash. Don't let him order anything without calling you first.

I've done business with Dan many times and have no issues at all.

Anyone else have experience with Rainbow Engines?

I get all my machine work done from Rainbow. I do the assembly myself. I can rebuild that motor for you no problem, feel free to message me.

He may be smart and he may know how to build a fast car but that doesn't make him any less of a lying, scamming, asshole who's too damn arrogant to admit when he makes a mistake (or obviously misleads someone).

He may build you a motor but based on my experiences with him whatever's inskde that motor probably won't be what he tells you you're paying for. Personally, I'd go with Reza or Rainbow directly if that floats your boat (would rather support our fellow DSM'er person ally).

Like I said, there's also Rob in Belleville at Carquest if he's still working. Ask Jamie Valcamp or Ghiz for details.

Now I completely agree with you Sal..

Minus the fact I would never talk so negatively about anyone like that. I don't care if it's my enemy. I value my time too much to concern myself with other people's short comings.

But maybe this is the direction "out of town" DSM'rs should head in. I like the idea of keeping this community alive and it's not like Dan ever shows his face here.

+1 for Reza at Dynotune Racing.

+1 for Reza and rainbow

I will never doubt reza's work and in my dealings with Paul at Rainbow he did exactly what i asked for including turning my motor around in mere days ready to drop back in...their were some issues like he forgot to chase the threads for the head studs but i took it back to him and he did it immediately

Wilson Machine ahop here in Belleville, bought all CarQuest equipment, incuding Rob.

I only have good things to say about them. they ara all anyone trusts between Ottawa and Toronto. All the big v8 guys swear by them. Bunch of old racers with 40+ years experiance,Never catch them forgetting to chase head bolt threads..lal

But I do suggest we stick with the DSM family and sapport our own.

To be fair to rainbow i did rush them a lot so a slight oversight like that wasnt a big deal...

-Head and block decked and hot tanked, springs tested
-block honing and new rings with reconditioned pistons
-polished and balancing crank with new bearings
-short block assembly
-new valve seals, springs valves installed no cams

in what i think was 3 days

We had used Rainbow as well. Took a while but we also told him we were not in a rush. Our engine was toast with a spun main bearing and he had it machined and ground up rebuild.

The only way to ensure it is done right, is to do it yourself. Any shop will screw you if they get an opportunity.
