Best way to reach 15psi?? - July 23, 2000 04:50 pm UTC

Hi, I was wondering what would be the easiest and most cost effective way of increasing the boost to 15 or so.

Thanks!

You could try drilling out the boost control solenoid valve, but this will get you to around 14-14.5 psi only. Anything more than this and you'll likely to get your hands on a manual boost controller (eg. bleeder valve).

I was at Magnus the other day, and they broke off a small round plastic piece from a sensor (O2 I think), the guy said it was good for another 2psi. Is that what you are talking about?

That sounds like it. It's the restrictor from the boost control solenoid.

I suppose the fastest and easiest way of increasing boost is clamping your wastegate shut... but that ain't recommended. (:

I highly recomend getting an after market boost gauge before increasing your boost at all. Then just buy a $5 aquarium valve and you've got a manual boost controller when hooked up right. Just increase it to 15 psi.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure how a $5 aquarium valve will give me 15 psi. How is the boost pressure adjusted? Is it hard to install?

Thanks!

Let me know if this isn't clear enough.

It doesn't sound too bad, but I'd like it installed by a pro anyhow. Do you know anyplace or anyone I could go to for this job?

Thanks!

Me. I live in Kitchener and work in Mississauga. It'll take all of 30 seconds + test and tune. I'll only do it if you have an aftermarket boost gauge though.

No charge above the valve as long as you come to me.

Ok great! I can get an Autometer guage from Magnus and valve by tommorow. Mike, please let me know where and when. (If you can do it this week, I'll head down to London on Sunday, and enter in the 15+ bracket)

P.S. Where will the boost gauge be installed?

You need the gauge installed too? Well that would take more time and you'll need a pillar pod to mount it.

I will be at the event Sunday so I could just hook up the aquarium valve there for ya.... I've even got one at home I can bring along. I'll charge ya the $4 it'll cost me to replace it though.

If you need the gauge installed by me you'll have to trek out to Kitchener with it... and you'll have to beg if you want it done this week cuz I'm prep'n Quadcylla for the races [Linked Image]
