Some money..... what should I do? - April 27, 2007 10:39 pm UTC

I got my self roughly 400 bucks right now to spend on the car, and would like to spend my money wisely for once wink
I want th best bang for the buck.. so please help with some suggestions on hat to do.

Current set up:
Hard UICP
1G BOV crushed
mbc -15psi
3" Cat back (ready to go on)
Got a data logger, but cant get it to work yet..

what I was planning is a 3" downpipe-straight through
But what else would be good with the money left over? I was thinking a 14b turbo, with an "install kit".. This way I dont have to do major changes to fuel system just yet?

please provide your input laugh

For 400 your almost in range to get a MAFT. I personally noticed a HUGE difference going to a maft. I got bigger intake pipes when I did that. I went all out and spent about 600 in piping alone though. If you got an UICP You should be able to switch over to a maft. You might have to buy used to get everything for it. Thats just personally what I would first to the next talon I have.

For a 3" downpipe on a 14b I have heard you will some times get boost creep. Because im only running a 14b when I get the talon back on the road. I plan on just doing cat back exhaust.

This is ofcourse my input. Someone else might have a better route to go. There might be better route if your driving a 2g. Also if you have awd or fwd. I have a 1g fwd and the MAFT, and piping has made the biggest difference.

Whatever you do, never ever piss into the wind...

I just had a look at your profile and did not see if you have an upgraded Exhaust. I would suggest you to go that route or get a biger Fuel Pump.

Whatever you do, do a suporting mod that will suport future modification.

^^ i assume you just skimmed my post wink
Exhaust is already here (just not on the car) and a straight through down pipe will be coming eventually.

Walbro 190 and a set of used 550cc injectors.

If you can keep that below 250, I would then get a logger or something, and up the boost.

I already have a logger.... I just have to figure out how to work it (USB OBDII cable, which i cant figure out why wont connect to car)
I was thinking:
14b turbo
Install kit
save the money left, then buy a walbro and injectors.
Does this sound like a logical way to go? I already have my boost at 15-16 psi, and from what I read online thats about as far as the T-25 will take me. So I figure with the 14b I can stay at the 15psi (would notice a bit of a gain right? because it has a larger flow?)
Then get the fuel pump and injectors to raise boost even higher?

Or am I thinking about this the wrong way?

Buy a 16G, rewire your pump.

I cant afford a 16G right now.. they go for a little more dont they? Plus I would need the jpipe etc any ways.. so it would be way out of my price range.

I have a big t28 for sale. Thats a good 2g mod, you dont have to change all the lines like the 16g and spools way better.

Heck, jump on that T28 offer, add a Walbro 190 and some Injectors and you'll be rocking all the way home.

Some people have sucess with MAFT and some people don't.

I wasted all of last summer trying to set up my MAFt, in my opinion it is one of the worst things to buy.

T-28 and more fuel sounds like a good idea. EPROM and a chip (or better yet DSMlink) is a worthwile investment too.

Just a question, with the t28, and no fuel mods(for now) If i have the boost set at stock 10psi, would I notice any gains? The turbo flows more so I assume so?

Re: Some money..... what should I do? - April 30, 2007 01:23 pm UTC

The big t28 will flow a little more at stock boost. I thought 2g's ran 14 psi stock? but the turbo's sweet spot is 21 psi and for that a fuel pump is needed. I ran 18 psi with no injectors and a pump and it felt way faster then the t25 but 550's and a 190 would be the best setup.
