Exhaust mani gasket

I got my car back together, and now have a leak at my exhaust gasket. The gasket is a 2 piece, joined at each end. Should the center be able to separate, or is it junk now? I have gasket maker, but its only good till 700f, I would think he manifold would get at least that hot.
