HOW TO: 2g ECU in 1G adapter harness

I had a couple member ask me to do a write up so i'll toss one together here.

What needed:

-Solder gun(Solder sucker or wick as-well)
-Shrink wrap
-Wire strippers
-Some wire
-A spare 1g ecu(i recommend a fried or non eprom ecu)
-A 2g Interior harness and engine harness
-Some patience

Procedure:

BEFORE BEGINNING REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW the 1g and 2g pin outs!!


Step 1:

Take the 1g spare ecu spare and de-solder the plug in from the board(The longer the pins the better contact area you will get), Take your time doing this, it can be a pain.

Step 2:

Take your 2g engine harness, Cut the ecu plugs off(Leaving about 6-8" to work with). Now take your 2g INTERIOR harness and cut the OBD2 port off.

Step 3:

Review this Image with the 2g pin outs with the 1g pin outs in RED

*** please remember the orientation of the pin outs facing you in diagrams***



Step 4:

Start stripping the wires ONE at a time on the 2g plugs and solder them to the 1g pin out, As your doing this DON"T FORGET TO PUT SHRINK TUBE ON THE WIRES BEFORE SOLDERING!!!! you'll want to shrink the tube on the connections later to not worry about shorting out between each-other. Also note some of the wire colors don't match, so worry about PIN OUTS not the wire color codes

*** I used the tinning method as keeping the solder gun on the 1g pin out will actually melt the plastic and the pins become loose. So tin the wire and tin the pin allow to cool, then solder together***

Step 5:

You should be at a stage like this, If you are CONGRATS your almost there. Continue to till all your wires are together, Heat shrink all the tubes up.



Step 6:

You need to solder 4 wires from the harness to the OBD2 plug. refer to ecmlink wiki for the pin outs you need.

***I put my obd2 port in the plastic spacer under my deck, lengthen your wires to where you want to place it***

Step 7:

You should be pretty much ready to slam your 2g ecu in your 1g car now! So go plug it all in!


Step 8:

You MUST USE A 2g ignition firing order!

Step 9:

Turn your ignition forward and try to connect to ecmlink, If you can great!! start a live capture and play with your throttle to make sure it's reading. If not, you will have to go back thru your wiring to make sure it is all correct.

5--->68 ISC motor coil (B1) 18---->67 ISC motor coil (B2)


After some testing you need to swap these wires to have proper control without reversing polarity's on the ISC
