best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - July 29, 2003 04:15 pm UTC
tried doing a search in this but i keep getting a link to different articles and stuff.
anyway i'm considering just dropping a turbo motor into my n/a and wondering who's the best to tackle this.
just need the motor plus install and maybe some tuning. i have everything else (maybe need a downpipe)necessary.
thanks for the space.

Metalexmotor works MAYBE?!
make sure they know what they are doing!
ECU and MAS need to be changed too.

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 03, 2003 06:54 am UTC
if you're really serious i'll just bolt the turbo and stuff and forget about the turbo motor.
i'll make it worth your while --->$$$
let me know

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 03, 2003 06:58 am UTC
I was kind of seriuos,
if I were you I would have just bolt on the turbo and run it with the NT motor. even pushing it
what is the worst that could happen?
the motor gives? THEN change to a turbo block.
why frack with it when it is fine.
I don't want to "make money" out of it either.
basically a help to you for doing it if you have got a the space.
to be honest if I had a driveway I would have called you over for the weekend to get it done. but anyhow if you like PM me.

Here comes some more stupid questions brought to you by the farthest from a mechanic...Josh Stevenson!!!!!!
I dont know if i herd this correct but chris did you say you were just going to bolt on a turbo to a NT engine? What other parts must go with this?
Posted By: Thomas Toth
Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 03, 2003 08:29 pm UTC
N/A and turbo engines are the same thing pretty much. Compression is higher in the N/A otherwise its close to same. I know few guys running a N/A engine in AWD TSI Talons and they run fine. Cant boost it as high as a turbo engine but who cares. If it pops get a turbo engine.
BTW
www.metalexmotorworx.com did my N/A car swap to turbo 4g63t and its a 400 or So HP car

amin-i live in an apartment but my spot is in the corner and i got a lot of space to fool around there.

I am doing my home work on my own car,
1992 NT>Turbo
if you are to do it, in my opinion YOU MUST do the electrical parts first and then move to installing the actual turbo.
one thing is unque about 92 Galants and that is 144 HP (vs. 135 in NT DSMs). pretty impressive.
my "would be" plan if I was to do one:
STAGE 1:
install the ECU
then injectors and the resistor pack
then MAS
EMission control lines if desired.
DEBUG this.
LEVELL seems easy but it is the hardest part. could be done in a weekend.
STAGE2:
Turbo and oil lines and what not.
requires removal of the AC FAN or replacement of it.
at least,Xcase should be removed to get to oil pan.
LEVEL: Easy, straight forward.
STAGE 3:
Intecooler
LEVEL: custom job all around, UNLESS there VR4 parts handy.
STAGE4:
Oil Cooler for the engine
LEVEL: easier custom job.

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 04, 2003 04:34 am UTC
that's pretty much what i had in mind
i even have a 2 1/4" i/c piping custom made for a vr4 and the i/c.
tony vaz actually told me to do the electrical 1st too.
just need an ecu
ques:how benefical will a super-afc be with this set up?
Posted By: Amin Ahmadi
Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 04, 2003 05:06 am UTC
IMHO s-afc at this point is pointless unless you want to keep your stock ECU and then there is no Knock monitoring and a wring fuel map.

So with those parts Amin how much boost could you run, and how much would that increase your horse?

what parts?!

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 04, 2003 12:20 pm UTC
just waiting for the ecu and a 2g mas air sensor filter adapter and i should be able to complete the "1st stage".
p.s. add knock sensor

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 04, 2003 05:13 pm UTC
Sorry amin it was a little late when i wrote that. After all the stages, and the conversion is complete, is it true you could only run about 8 psi? and how much horse would that bring you up to?

isn't it 1992?
Josh,
some say up to 17 PSi, you can make "enough" HP. it needs proper supporting bits and pieces. LIKE A TURBO CAR

If you want Chris make the trip to my place with Amin and whomever and we can put it on in about 4-7 hours, depends on the sh!t that get in the way. Bring 2 people with you if possible and make sure you have it all. I mean ALL, or else your car won't run. All bolts, gaskets and wiring.
I've done the engine conversion before and I am actually doing a turbo conversion in my garage right now too. Take a look. http://www.ca.dsm.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=000214

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 05, 2003 02:01 am UTC
I do not want too much speed, considering i really have no were to use it, i just dont want to be NT anymore!! But 17 is good enough for me! I mean thats still a hell of alot, i guess you just have to do it correct. But i am really serious about this. So on this site how long do you think it will take me to collect the parts. Would you be willingto help me search Amin and whenyou find a good deal tell me and i buy it. Because knowing me i would just buy the first thing i see and it be missing peices and in this case maybe even little things like nuts and bolts which arent sold at a canadian tire!!
Money is not a problem but i am willing to find parts right now and if i could get them in like 2-3 weeks and have it turbo by then i would be sooo happy!
What do you think?

Chris,
I am up for it.
I thought your car might have a knock sensor already, nevermind.
find the parts fast, I have only less than a month to screw around. once the school starts I am off the scene!
(fracking 3rd year is no joke
)
Josh, you have to do your homework yet.

hey guys i'm going to go the get a new motor route in bout a few weeks time.
my mech is going to get a motor for $1800 and throw it in for me.
just want to know what "little" parts i need?
i picked up an exhaust mani gasket yesterday, gonna need some silicone couplings and an oil pan.
any ideas?

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 07, 2003 03:57 pm UTC
you only need a downpipe
the rest comes with the engine
also a resistor pack, make sure you connect that or you will fry something.
check and see if you can use TSi AWD flywheel and clutch,
tell him not to frack with the exhaust manifold. But if you can somehow check for intake leak you might save yourself alot of hassle,
If it is a JDM with cyclone or any JDM with no EGR you should think about what you may wanna do. If you are not planning to pass emission then it is fine. else think about a US Spec(Canadian) Intake. I would personally won't bother with it and put the engine with whatever intake it came with.

Re: best shop in gta for engine/turbo install - August 08, 2003 01:45 am UTC
i picked up a downpipe from a talon.
so if it doesn't fit i'll get him to cut off whatever or add on what needs to be done.
got a resistor pack.
i guess i should be good to go.
just need an ecu.

Well Amin i will be for seing which routei will be going on monday. A friend of mine in the T.O area has gone to a shop that has thousands of engines in stock, mostly ricer type R's and V-tec's, but they have mitsu. Engines... All the engines are VERY low in cost. So i will be going to check out the shop.
If i do decide to go through with this, Amin i think it is near you, and if you wouldnt mind possibly meeting me there one day and seing if they are selling them cheap for a reason!
Plus i would like to see what else i would need.
Let me know

Guys, I would come out and help out any DSMer with there project but I'm in the mists of building a garage and all my weekends are all booked up from now till the end of time. .
Count on your car being down a few days because it doesn't matter how much preperatition your do there is always some part that is missing or something else that just dosen't go your way.
Good Luck.
P.S. Amin you can come by this weekend and pick up the engine stand if you want.
