2Gnt Turbo kit install (PICS) - April 05, 2005 06:36 am UTC

I'm finally posting the pics I promised I would have. Info about my turbo kit. I've pieced together my kit which basically consists of parts that would come from the Star Performance Turbo Kit.

I brought my car to my buddies shop early morning this is what she looked like.

I was really excited to finally start installing the turbo kit I pulled off the front end with in 5mins.
Once the front end was stripped we bolted on the Star FMIC

Then we removed the stock exhaust header and the best part was trying to remove the downpipe from the cat  . This is when the torch came in handy laugh . We unbolted the oil pan tapped it for the return fitting cleaned it out to get rid of all the shavings(sorry no pics). We installed the Star turbo manifold, Turbonetics T3/T04 Turbocharger(.63AR T3 Hotside with a 50 trim wheel), Deltagate Mark II Wastegate and 2.75" Exhaust Down Pipe. And since I didn't have any gaskets for in between the mani and turbo, and turbo and downpipe my buddy had a sheet of metal which is used to make your own gaskets(not sure what its called)so I traced out flanges and cut out the gaskets.

Removed the oil perssure sensor switch (located at the back of the block its the last sensor closest to the tanny housing) Place a T fitting size is 3/8" NPT in the location of the oil pressure switch and place the pressure switch to the other end and place a fitting at the top that will fit with the braided SS hose that goes to the turbo. (fitting were purchased at Cisco in Mississauga Dixie just north of 401)

Bought the couplings at EuroSpeed (near Dufferin and Dupont) Installed all the piping.

Installed a walbro 255lph fuel pump. Pump is located under the back seats on the passenger side. Was a pretty direct swap with the stock pump(no pics). Placed my FMU 12:1 in between the brake and clutch fluid resorvoir. I had a set of relays there before but relocated them behind the washer fliud reservoir.

Installed a air filter on the turbo and that is pretty much it. I also installed a boost gauge, A/F gauge, EGT gauge and a greddy auto turbo timer but will post pics of that later on. Here are pics with of the kit completed on my ESi.

Sorry she is all dirty. I will post pics tomorrow of my car all cleaned. Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Just wondering what kind of turbo you installed on your Talon, and where you got the exhaust manifold.

I have a 97 talon and am doing the same and am in need of a exhaust manifold but i have a 1g turbo in new condition.

DAVE is running a really nice T3/T4 Turbo if memory serves me.

Way to revive an old post tu
Edit: at least we know you searched :-)

That 14b you have will be a bit of a hassle to install on a NT without a T3 >>> dsm adapter plate.

I have the two flanges i need i just got to get the rest of the manifold made up.

Hey Bill I'm running a Turbonetics T3/T04 Turbocharger. As for the manifold I am using a manifold that comes with the star perfomance turbo kit. I picked it up from someone that was parting out their kit. You can actually install a 14b on the 2g NT stock manifold. Here some pics.

The two bolts on our manifold are spaced the same as two cattycorner bolts on a 14B turbo flange. You only use two bolts, but it will bolt on. And if you have AC you might have to remove it for clearance.

^^^
Interesting...
2 bolts is definitely not enough, so weld the turbo to it, it's only a 14b wink tu

Oh BTW, I still have my old T3/DSM adapter plate if you (or anyone else) wants it. Just a little rough in the center.

Thanks for the info, but the starter is in the way.If i was to use a manifold like that,i bought the engine and turbo flange just got to get some 45's and a couple of t peices and i will be good.

Hey guys
I'm just in the works of getting my turbo put on my 96 Esi.
Just was wondering what you guys are running for a computer and what kind of boost you guys run.
I've also got a Turbonetics T3/T04 and was of running thinking 8lbs (on stock). I've got a e-manage I'm going to use.

Brian.

Probably not wise to run any more then 8psi on stock internals. Check out 2gnt.com for any answers for questions you may have. Good info there.
Another issue with turboing a n/t is the stock axles are weak and its not unheard of them snapping under a given load.
You may want to look into some drive shaft shop stage II axles depending how hard you planned on beating on her.

Would a spacer help at all? Or is the starter in the way in reference to the position of the outlet on the manifold?

Basically do you need to go left-right or just further out from the motor.

A spacer would help you in this case.

I don't believe the starter is in the way as someone on the 2gnt forums has installed a 14b on stock manifold. But has said the a/c would have to be removed. And as for computer as of right now i'm running on the stock computer and at 6psi. I'm planning on installing e-manage soon. Purchased it a while ago just haven't had a chance to install it as of yet hopefully i can get it done this year.

Re: 2Gnt Turbo kit install (PICS) - February 26, 2007 10:04 pm UTC

I won't be beating on this car. It's just to give me a bit more kick in the pants.

As for power, anyone have a small idea what kind of power I'd be looking at?
I've talked to one guy with a 95 esi who pretty much had the same setup only running at 10psi.
He said it dyno'd at 300whp.

If no one knows I guess I'll have to wait till the shop gets the car in and get's it on their dyno.

Re: 2Gnt Turbo kit install (PICS) - February 27, 2007 05:42 am UTC

HAHAH 300hp on stock internals and 10psi annoy no way the stock engine can't handle that. Unless he has his fuel and timing tuned to the T even then don't think he will be making 300hp. Pretty much the setup i have can be anywhere from 190whp-220whp at 8psi depending on how well your engine is before you turbo it.

Re: 2Gnt Turbo kit install (PICS) - February 27, 2007 03:24 pm UTC

I wondered....
All the stuff I have is from my buddy's Turbo, Gsr powered Acura El. Everything was on the car for a week when it was written off. It all had less then 1000kms on it.
He dyno'd 290whp at 10psi with the setup. And I was there and saw it.
Now, that's a very different engine and I dont expect the same thing. Just wanted to have a rough idea.
As for my engine, it was replaced in 2001 with a rebuild. It has a few things in it, but nothing serious.
The other things I'm having done is 3" exhaust and they are building me a custom exhaust manifold/header...whatever you want to call it in this case.
The engine has less then 20,000kms since 2001.

As for the engine... stock it can hold about 330hp at the crank.. the rods start to stretch at this point... with rod and piston replacement.. some people are getting 600+hp out of the engine... stock head (no porting) stock cams.. stock crank, mls head gasket...

Don't ask how I found that one... santa

Oh and I realize it's about the SOHC, but your weakness is in the block.

Wow... they are making sound that my winter beater 420a ESI engine is stronger then my GSXes 4G63... i would never believe that but then I am half way building aturbo kit for mine, FMU and 255 already in, waiting for the mani and the turbo with FMIC etc... to arrive and we shall see how strong that engine really is @ 5-7 PSI with 48 A/R T3 turbo

PS: As per picture posted here, it's a mitsu turbo so exhaust housing is on the right, good luck making a DP without melting half things around it, T3 setup (compressor is on the right and exhaust is on the left) is the only safe and easy way of doing it.

have you worked out how much it cost you in total to turbo it?

Well I have some great deals with SBR (I got reseller acc) and Ebay addict. I didn't want any too crazy so I got exhaust mani, gauges (AC S7) with pod, oil lines, FMIC, FMIC Piping (great kit for 60 bux, just cut and fit) off ebay and won an auction for $900 T3 turbo for around $350 or so. Total with everything shipped and taxes was like $1500 CAD and I got full stage 2 kit with many extras.
