NA AMG Cylcone Manifold :D - April 16, 2018 01:17 am UTC

Scored this little baby a while back. Seeing it's rare figured I'd share. I know most here want big numbers with huge intercoolers. I like tweeking and smart parts (SMIC), not necessarily the beat them end all parts but for a quick daily, definitely interesting.

I'm always a rare part kind of person, seeing as only 500 of these were made well laugh
It's meant for the non turbo FWD AMG VR4 they sold in small numbers. They pushed big numbers even though they were NA. The intake itself is bigger than a 1g/2g, it's better divided for flow than the normal JDM eclipse cyclone manifold and is also a 2 piece instead of the normal 3 piece (less gaskets :p)

Going to give this a try on a turbo car. Should be fun laugh 6 bolt head needed, but I may be modifying it to fit 7 bolt head or simply going to use a 6bolt head/port match the 7 bolt head.

Good read/pics for anyone interested.

Nice had no idea these even existed!

As for on a 7 bolt head its not worth it, the ports are not very similar (tons of welding and porting to do) so you are much better off using this on your 1g.

1g is most likely being put to rest soon. Besides it was a 7bolt too. I could also use a 6bolt head too, but I'd like to keep it 7bolt. Have a guy that knows how to weld cast so may just modify some manifolds to fit (chop off 6bolt flange weld on 7 bolt flange and port match). Not this one right away, seeing how rare it is, but some normal cyclones to begin with.

I think when it comes to intake manifolds it is just 1g style or 2g style, so you could always steal the 7 bolt head off the 1g.

How are the runners controlled in that manifold? It is proven to work well on NA engines, how much do you think it will benefit turbo engines?

Currently vacuum, like the normal JDM cyclone manifolds. That can be changed though, many have used actuators or RPM switches either controlled via ecmlink or other to trigger (usually at 3000-4000 RPM).

For turbo, I know that plenty of people have used the original cyclone and made more power down low as it accelerates flow to the motor by blocking a portion of the intake runners when flow lacks due to low RPM/Speed. Quicker air build up in the chamber at low speed/RPM = More torque and HP per spark. This means the car becomes more nervous; more fun to drive as a daily, which is what I'm after. For bigger turbo users, it helps spool a big turbo quicker (300-400rpm quicker) for the same reason (accelerated flow). The issue with the original cyclone is that for BIG power it's not as good at the top end because of its plenum size. This rare VR4 AMG version corrects that issue with a bigger plenum. As an added bonus, less parts as it's only 2 part instead of 3 like the JDM original Cyclone Intake; which also minimizes chances of boost leak by probability.

Nice manifold, I'd love to try that on my car smile

Seems the interweb is saying there are only gains under 3000 rpm from that manifold. Gui can you share us a link?

Yup, gains are on the fun side of daily driving smile I'll try to find the good ones I had tonight for you.

Found a video on amg where they talk about the 500 galants they built with Mitsubishi.

Did you end up installing this ? Curious about the results.

I will soon, waiting on Stephan to get some time (me also, as I'm concentrating on Ralliart right now)
