Decibel rating

Decibel rating - March 25, 2017 08:26 pm UTC

Just wondering, seeing as I'm trying to make my dsms a little less noisy, what decibel levels people are getting.

I have 75db inside via driver seat 82db outside near the exhaust. Idling

What are you using to measure?

Me and sandra will both be competing in a rev contest this year in the import class at the Wheels on the Bay car show.

We will actually be in seperate classes. Mens Import and womens import! Lal

Sound meter app from app store via cell

No turbo car is going to beat a naturally aspirated car with headers in a noise competition. But, if they have different categories for Turbo and Non-turbo then you definitely have a chance and I hope you win!

Don't know how accurate a sound meter app is but I guess for just loudness and not sound quality it may be okay. You can just buy a proper one for like $15-20 USD:

Last 3 years in a row.. The import class was won by a cavalier with a 2" exhaust and a fart can. It judged by a decibel meter. I figure set up a nice anti lag or 2 step!

Import class won by a scrapolier??? Sounds a bit off to me.

Its a classic car show.. In Belleville. There are not many "imports"

Hmm, I should check my Thermal R&D before I remove it and afterwards with the new "oemish" exhaust lol.

It might be just me.. But I hate the sound of the 4g63 motor itself. Sounds like its whining and complaining. And the stock exhaust made it sound worse. Even if when i run with my cat on.. Its too quiet.

You will never hear a quiet lambo.. Or high end porcha. Fast cars are loud cars.

Why did nobody invite me to the ricer convention? I have the perfect car for that contest.

Re: Decibel rating - March 27, 2017 10:35 pm UTC

Well I would not call it a ricer convention. There are maybe 10 "imports" and several hundred classics. My talons dont normally partake in the show.. But when we seen the rev compitition.. And the competitors. We thought hey.. Ill never get a trophy for best looks.. Or fastest.. Maybe loudest will do. Lal

But ya.. We could use a bit more dsm sapport here. Theres lots of car shows and fun race days.

Did you know. When ever the big v8 guys rev thier cars.. And then open thier cut outs and rev.. The open cut out actually makes less decibels on the meter!

I tried 2 apps, both gave nearly identical results. I might try with my other phone for shits & giggles.

This was also inside the garage so there is for sure some echoing from the walls.

Thats what I figured. That and sandras 1g has a tiny turbo on it. And a magnaflow muffler. And a cat.
