Hello there County area! - March 22, 2014 07:28 pm UTC
It appears that I'll be posted to Trenton until at least October after this course.
Looking forward to getting to know you Bellville and Trenton folk a little better this spring / summer!
I'm hoping to be working with 429 trsp sqn for that time in an OJT position. Should be a wealth of knowledge.
Exciting times to come!

429 Sqn just happened to be where I work. You just hit the Jackpot my friend.
Make sure you come over and introduce yourself when you "clear in" the Sqn.

You'll see me Eric... Look for the roof rack
ghis, C17s have been my dream bird long before Canada made the purchase. You can bet I'll be busting my ass to get there as a posting prior to wings parade.

Congrats...you couldn't have picked a better place to be located as a DSM'er, and with Shannonville at your backdoor you'll have a good time. I enjoyed a few good summers out there myself. You'll have fun!

The only good thing about Trenton is that Shannonville isn't a far drive

There is work required before I hit any tracks. I need to get the GSX in top notch condition before she comes to Moosejaw with me in October!

That would be a long drive
And after my several roads trips to Cali I totally agree with Reza
I've always found DSM's to be pretty reliable on long drives, as long as you cruise them
Hope you still got the cruise control hooked up in your car

Re: Hello there County area! - April 01, 2014 06:38 pm UTC
Oh, I have full confidence in my machine! Personally never really liked cruise control, but it is hooked up and fully functional.
She's taken me to Calgary and almost back. Lol. Still not sure what quite happened.

Re: Hello there County area! - April 02, 2014 09:57 pm UTC
I'm thinking the Tuesday after Easter. Not sure which sqn I'll be attached to yet, but from my understanding I can request to go wherever once I'm there. After all, my skill set is quite limited at this point. Everyone needs coffee. Haha

Re: Hello there County area! - May 03, 2015 04:31 pm UTC
Well, it was an amazing weekend and I feel it's time for an update.
I've been pushing through NFTC Phase II Harvard training for the past 9 months. Hard work and dedication (and a lot of alcohol.....) has gotten me here and I'm happy to announce that I've been selected to move forward with Multi engine flight training.
For all of those who aren't too sure what that is, the important thing to take away is my odds of being posted to Trenton with the crew just increased 100xs over!
WOOT!
Should have final word in another 9 months so hand tight
Big dirty bird, I'm coming for you....

Hello Skipper!!!
Let me tell you that I like what I read. For you civilians; that means that means that "Johnny" might have a crack at Flying the C17; an Airplane that I have been working on (wrenching) for the past 8 years.
I have been wrenching on Military Aircraft for the past 29 years and this is the best "Airframe" I ever worked on. It is Big, Modern and it kicks ars.
I have travelled the world aboard this plane as a Tech Crewman (Onboard Mechanic). If Johnny gets what he wants he will be Flying while I sleep at the back!!!
Keep at it and best of luck.

If I was a pilot, I'd want to know my mechanics have the skills to keep a DSM running. Those are legit credentials
Congrats Johnny!

My original post asked if your DSM was actually running Ghis, but I didn't want to scare Johnny with the likely answer

Enroute through the states in the mighty GSX pulling my trailer.
Sure would be nice to have a tail wind opposed to the 50kmh head wind.... grrrr.

Re: Hello there County area! - April 25, 2016 08:29 pm UTC
I had that headwind as a tailwind for me last night heading to Detroit. May not be the same weather system but it was definitely blowing due West!
Will you be crossing back into Canada at the Detroit crossing, or are you trudging further east and crossing at Buffalo/Erie/Niagara/etc.?

Yeah man. Massive low trough extending from about Ohio to Saskatchewan.
I'm going to cross in Sarina to hopefully avoid any issues normally associated with Detroit.
