Lapping at Shannonville

Ok, the full track at Shannonville has been booked for Sunday July 16, 2000. Anyone who wants to try lapping on a road course, or just wants to drive as fast as you and your brakes and tires can stand is invited. No cops. No kids. No speed limit. Just speed!

There will be experienced racers on hand to offer some in car instruction, and video and photos will be taken to record how much fun everyone is having. Part of the day will include runs on the 1/4 mile, providing an opportunity to settle some scores with a Viper and a few serious Porsches. Passengers are OK, but everyone MUST wear a helmet.

Early booking cost is $200 for the day (9:00am to 5:00pm), which inlcudes lunch and all the goodies listed above. A $100 deposit reserves your place, balance is due March 31/00. Attendance is limited to 45 cars to keep things flowing freely and make sure everyone gets lots of lap time, so if you're interested, book now!

can you provide more info on how it's set up? Is it one car at a time on the track or do they stagger them? No need for a cage or harnesses is there? How serious is Tech going to be, what speed rating on the tires etc.

Sounds good. I'll wait until the last minute (March 31) to decide though. My car always craps out before such an event.

George, Alex mentioned that this is a lapping event. No cage req'd. Any tires will do. Just need a helmet.

At a lapping event, they send one car out at a time every 15 seconds or so, and you're not allowed to pass anywhere except on a designated straight if the person being passed waves on the passer and moves over. Don't worry, it's safe. Because it is Shannonville, if you lose it, you'll just spin out at worst. Not like Mosport where there are walls/rocks/trees/people to worry about.

Do some searching on how to get your brakes into shape though.

Go if you can. It is more fun than you can imagine. And you can usually hitch a ride in other cool cars

Hey George, Peter is exactly right. We might divide the sesions into fast cars/experienced drivers and not so fast cars/less experienced drivers. the whole idea is to set it up so that people can lap without interruptions to their runs. Plus some of the guys will take you aout in their cars. This is one of the best ways to learn!

The most important preparation will be brakes. In a few weeks I will have prepartion tips posted on my web site.

Book as soon as you can. We just started telling people about this late last week and eight places are already taken.

What standard helmet will do? I have my old Snell 85 rated one.

Hey Allan, that's no problem, I'll be checking with Mike shortly. Snell 85 is better than a coconut but M90 is the usual minimum standard right now. If you plan on doing much lapping, it's really worth spending a few bucks on a decent helmet. You can usually get good deals at this time of year, and should be able to get a new M95 for about $150 bucks or less.

Watching & riding is ok - hey the more the better. Even if you want to share a car with someone, that's ok too...bookings are per car.

Sorry but now you can count me out. That date is one of the Solo 1 events at the new Mosport track.

Yeah, it's really tough to book the track on weekends. We booked this day back in November and there were only two days left to choose from. At the time, the Solo 1 schedule didn't conflict, but then it was changed after that.

This should be lots of fun. I don't know if I'll be runing in the event but I might show up to see you guys running.

I did some Pay Per Lap last summer and it was lots of fun. It was my first time on a race track and it's the best way to relief some the urge for speed...

My best time were 2.13 on the 4.5KM track. I don't think it's too bad for a 1G 2.0L NT.

One guy from Peterboro was there with his Mustang 5.0L. He tought he was so cool. He did 2.22 just before I got on the track and told me to take it easy like I did not know what the H%$* I was doing. I came back with a 2.15. The poor sucker did not understand what did hapend, his best ever time was 2.20.
He got his a$$ spancked by a 2.0L 4 cyl rice burner. I had a good laugh. ;~0
