Spring time BBQ

hey there everyone, been sitting and brainstorming some ideas for a meet in the spring when the cars are fresh out of storage. I was thinking about hosting a little "DSM BBQ' at my house in Cambridge. everyone would be welcome and im open for suggestion. I was thinking somewhere around 1-2 meet at the house and eat then hang around go do some group photos and depending on what day we planned it on quite possibly hit up the 519 Meet in Kitchener. please chime in on this everyone!

I'd try to make it with the dsm.

haven't set a date yet but im just trying to get some ideas from other board members. i'll be giving lots of notice in advance for anyone traveling.

Love this idea! Depending on how well this goes I will look at hosting one as well, would love to share some of that smokey meet with all my fellow dsmers!!

I would be providing all the food as well (burgers/dogs) but if anyone wants anything special on the bbq that's up to them to bring. I ran a club called "magnum mafia Canada" for about 7 months before I did the switch back to the dark side and held a spur of the moment one and had a great turnout. so id love to see a big dsm turnout. besides my neighbor thinks his cobalt ss smashes a DSM so he might need a little lesson taught to him

I did bring it down 2 seasons ago for a late luncheon at "The Q".

Met up with a few of the guys.

I should've stopped by your place.

It was a pleasure to see the silver bullet in person.

The "Q" on the other hand... Felt like a watering hole for geriatric buffalo.

Well St-Hubert is, The Q is the closest thing; used to be a St-Hubert (and no, swiss chalet doesn't even compare :p)

519 meets don't have an exact date for their first meet but it will be in May and at the sunrise centre which is on the far west side of Kitchener.

So whatever date that ends up being maybe bbq same day? Yaa??

well until we get a little closer lets set something tentatively for May 28-29 or June 4-5 I would say earlier in May but I'll be in Sauble at my trailer may 24 weekend and any earlier in may some of our cars might still be away or out of commission lol. what works best for you guys ??

I'm hoping to have the car out for April, so anytime after mid April would work for me, preferably a Saturday or Sunday. Could roll up with Lucian as well.

well theres quite a bit of "next gen" dsmers around here Jerry so we"ll definitely have to meet up in the spring. where in Kitchener are you located and its a red all numbers matching Canadian 1 owner chevelle. the guy was telling me it was appraised for somewhere near 100k

Not to be negative but with the history of this board, I would be prepared to make arrangements for only 25-50% of all members who signed up on the "will attend" list actually showing up.

Don't need to show up in a DSM, just show up! Bringing the DSM is always nice but don't let it be the only reason you don't show.

Bryan, if you show up in a GTR, I won't hold it against you, just let me drive it

If I make it I most definitely will not be in the DSM.

Good point, I should be up and running by then though, give me 2 months to put it all together and get it tested.

I would choose the nismo 370z over the GTR, interior is so much nicer.

You'll get along with my neighbor across the street just fine then lol just picked up a 2016 Nismo 370 in the fall. he spends more time with that then his wife lol hes a huge dsm/evo fan too so im sure he'll be gawking

I have a kid with a slammed subaru, that's about it for my block. Oh and a neighbour that has a car under half cover but looks like it isn't going anywhere any time soon.

that's sweet dude, idk if you have heard of the Shaffer brothers they both had stanced neon srt4's that would go to importfest etc. but they live down the street from me also. its quite nice seeing all these nice cars in the neighborhood

yep still happening in Cambridge, its extremely easy to get to my place its right off of the 401 and eagle street i'll post a street view with an address once we get a little closer

quite nice actually all fairly new roads in Cambridge and my sub division is A1 lol

Any chance we have a good camera man in our ranks? For video? pics good too, but would be nice to have a vid for once. Driving convoy/parked/etc. Maybe the more we do it, the more people will want to join. Just a thought.

I can have the gopro setup. I will also bring my camera but I think it will just be me so no camera man.

the go pro is an awesome idea when we do our cruise and i'll have my girlfriend there with her camera so I think were covered quite well.

okay guys so now that our expected numbers are getting bigger and bigger im booking a pavilion in riverside park for all of us. but we will be meeting at my house and then going down together. my address is 206 Newport Drive in Cambridge. its right off of eagle street and for anyone coming from the 401 its literally 4 turns to my front door lol

I am trying to decide if I want to put my cutout back on but leaning more towards just running test pipe.

im all stock except for a 3' RTM catback on the car and ive gotta etest my car again this year so im waiting to put my test pipe on lol

Of course you're going to put a test pipe on. Cats don't belong on these cars unless you're trying to pass an e-test and don't know somebody that's capable to stick the sniffer in the tailpipe of a Corolla

Ive got a guy here in Cambridge that "passes" my car every year I don't know why I cant get mine to pass with full exhaust but it failed miserably last time

Also interested in a local guy that "passes". Paid 250 plus diagnosis for a conditional pass on my 1g.

i paid 300 for my last etest.

Our old family mechanic used to do some shady stuff so I am going to stop by his shop on the way home and see if he will do a pass for me.

300 sounds insane to me though!! Isn't an etest usually $120?

You guys expect a mechanic/shop to put their license on the line for giving cheap dsmers a fake etest for next to nothing?

You pay them double for the risk they are assuming, why is that an issue?

That's a fair point, I didn't think etest was that serious I figured this was only expected for safety.

I thought etests were around 35??

And I dont see why our cars need fakes. I have no emissions on my car other then a 3" cat I put on just for the test. And never failed.

regardless of the cat size, as long as it was "in working order" i always passed emissions. Nothing else (including EGR, evap lines, deleted vacuum lines etc) ever made me fail a test.

It was mostly just not wanting to hack up the exhaust to put on a cat just for etest.

Seems alot cheaper then 300 every 2 years. and you have exhssut work ahead of you anyway.

Nothing to hack up...just get a set up with vbands or band clamps and it's quick and easy to change. Small upfront cost for huge added convenience down the road.

The etest itself is around $40.

Conditional pass are more expensive.

Next year no one in Ontario will have to pay for their etest. Except conditional pass.

Run a cat regardless. MTO loves modified cars. Why risk a huge fine OR give them a reason to look deeper into what mods you have.

Solomon has the right idea here. vband a cat in your exhaust while street driving and swap it out when you are at the track.

+1 i have 3 inch Cali approved cat (not magnaflow) and still a huge improvement over factory setup. For streets works really well for me.

That's my birthday!! and already have plans so I won't be coming if we changed the date.

Just wanted to say thank you Devon for planning everythin out and for the food, thanks Jeremy for the beer, and it was great seeing some familiar faces as well as meeting some new ones 😊 it was amazing weather for something like this, and the park was nice too!
