Shootout 2000 in London - February 12, 2000 04:36 am UTC

Since nothing seems to be happening, Marco will rent London this summer and do our own shootout. There won't be any entry fees, and he will do a BarBq with free beer. He reserved a Motel for anyone wanting to stay over. That's going to be free too.

Magnus rocks.

WOAH, everybody hold it!

Good idea tho, who wants to do the shootout in london? cause I can get dibs on a date right now, I would suggest some of you see if you can get some american talent to come up. But I wouldn't limit it to only DSM.

But its a good idea if you guys are srious we can do something.

I think we should have an event of some description. We need someone who has organized things like this before to lead the way, maybe Marco's the person to do that! [Linked Image]
How about a DSM takes on the world event? Invite anyone to show and go up agianst us eg F bodies, Honda's, Fords etc. No need for prizes or pay outs just bragging rights [Linked Image]

Now I know some of you Know some DSM members in the states, It would be good If every one of you could Throw the idea at them and see what they think? Point them to the thread too, If there is enough interest I can book now since I have already been offered prime dates that dont interfere with NIRA or IDRC dates, So get on it. Why does it have to be "imports"? That sounds a bit restrictive to me. Couldn't it be DSM against the world? Mustangs, F-bodies, GNs and "imports" (that does mean Honda Civics, right?) As long as they're modern street cars, not back-halved 60s wonders, that would be fun! [Linked Image]

If we want to call it a DSM event, but still allow other cars, how about this: Come in a DSM or come as the guest of a DSM. Require non-DSMs to have a Club DSM member invite or "sponsor" them (kind of like vouching for them that they're "cool"). That should keep the event "Private" & between friends [Linked Image]

That sounds like a good idea Marta.

That way you can get at least half of the cars as DSMs. I do think you need to let in non-DSM guys and gals if you want a big turn out.

It'd be nice to have the F body guys and other domestics (GNs, Mustangs etc) show up too. But I hear Peter. Like it or not, the fastest domestic guys in the Ontario area are faster than the fastest import people (let alone DSM people) here.

You can make a stipulation that the cars be non-trailered and streetable. That should cut down the 8 second guys.

Ummm, oh ya. Someone bloody invite me then. [Linked Image]

[Linked Image] Only half a day, Carl?? [Linked Image] How fast were you going??? It took me 10.5 hours (I'd call that a whole day), averaging about 130kph!

I dunno about that. The response I've seen from the DSM digest has been pretty tepid. I don't think you'll get a big enough crowd of participants to make it an 'event' if y'all restrict it to DSM only.

Seriously, how many DSM guys/gals show up at the Yorkdale meets or run at Caygua? Yeah, you get your group that DO go, but it ain't a huge amount of folk.

Even if you throw in all the rest of Canada, New York, Michigan etc., you may not get a huge turnout if it's DSM only. Besides, it'd be your chance to show others what your cars can really do. Who knows, open up some eyes over on the V8 crowd.

Yeah, I guess you'd want to keep it DSM focused and do the invite thing. But with Atmosphere Performance in Georgia (good shop -- they sent me two 16Gs all fine and dandy after fessing up on a mistake on shipping on their end -- they ate the shipping charge mistake) wanting to do a DSM shootout, I seriously doubt you'll get many US guys showing up other than Michigan/NY.

What about making it a bracket racing event with different classes? Say

15 and up
13-14.99
under 13

Bracket racing rewards the driver more than the car. So the 12.90 guy has a good chance against the 10 seconds guy (or gal, hey Marta?). Besides, pro-light quick 8 type of event is kind of strange unless you have REALLY fast cars...

We could make rules like : no tube or back-halved cars, no power adder (turbo or NOS) for the V-8 cars, must be registered and insured, etc...

Also, I find this whole "bring a V-8 pal" idea to be excellent!

Final tough. We shouldn't call is SHOOTOUT. We should come with an original name. Personally, I like the "DSM vs the world" I saw in one of the first posts. But then, I'm an old fart, so what do I know?

I can't wait!!!!

You said no trailered car... can I still bring my laser on a trailer? it is insured and everything but you all know how reliable it is... and I don't want to get stucked there (or worst on the way there!!!) And if my car doesn't break it would be good to bring back Emmmanuel's car wich is sure to break (c't'une joke Manu!)

I certainly don't pretend to make the rules. It's Marco's event. I was just merely proposing stuff...

I'm sure someone from the organisation will come with a guideline and some basic rules.
