Ohio might be back on - March 14, 2000 08:02 pm UTC

Apparrently Dave B might have put the shootout back together afterall. The July 21st weekend would be the date. I'm not 100% on this one though.

Later...

yeah, it's on.....Problem is, we have our own booked for the following weekend!
I know for sure I WONT be going to both, and since I think I'm working that weekend anyway (21st) I'll be going to the Canadian one....
I say we boycott it in protest of getting dicked around!

They should take this year off to let other events take place. this is too much of a short notice.

Re: Ohio might be back on - March 15, 2000 01:24 pm UTC

The question needs too be answered. From a racers and spectators point of veiw. Do I need to see 17 second passes down the track and or go to Ohio and see all the BIG names.

I'm sure that Marco's event will be great. I just don't think it will be as big..In addition I doubt that there will be enough DSMer's to compete competitavly with the rest of the feild.

Remember Dave's Event is dedicated to just DSM's I really hate looking at Honda's..

At the Ohio shootout, you will only race against DSMs, which is fine but at the London event you can kick Honda, VW, Mazda butt etc. It will be more fun. Ohio was fun last year but its a far drive and expensive, try $75 US a night for a motel thats a 1/2 drive to the track. I say boycott Ohio and lets make the Candaian Magnus shootout one to remember. If we go for the weekend we can party Sat. night. Marco has but up the cash to book the track so lets support him.

Re: Ohio might be back on - March 15, 2000 04:51 pm UTC

<sigh>

I wish I could go to both, but it doesn't make sense for me either.

I like Dave's event... well run, beautiful track (London's track blows goats by comparison) and it's a nice 3 day weekend, with the Imports on Sunday, the Auto-Cross & Carshow Saturday, in addition to the all-DSM crowd on the Friday.

Makes me feel sad that I will have to make a choice... damn. I wish Dave had picked another weekend. Or at least looked at the calendar, to see when other DSM types had planned replacement events, and planned around that... the 30th was clearly marked on the DSM events Calendar... [Linked Image]

I sent him a personal email, just wishing him the best of luck, but that I wasn't sure how many Canadians could make it this year, based on the proximity to the DSM vs. Them event.

I'm rambling... but let me throw out one more thought, before this turns into a Buschur vs. Magnus comparison (I see hints of that above already).

This isn't fair.
Two excellent guys, who run decent businesses (no matter what anyone says, you have to admit that at least) and who genuinely "give a sh!t", and their events are mere days away from each other.
Yet, at other times in the summer, we'll be crying for a decent DSM event, or be stuck with the 17 second hondas out at Cayuga because we're desperate for something to do.

I'm sure Dave's timing relates to the already well-publicized Import event on the Sunday (23rd). He's stuck there...

Is our Canadian timing locked in stone? I'm not saying we should even talk about moving it, but at the same time there are probably a bunch of guys south of the border, who are now faced with a similar choice...

I'll stop rambling... just depressed. :|

Re: Ohio might be back on - March 16, 2000 02:07 am UTC

Well, this really throws a fly into the ointment... I am looking really forward to the event on the 30th. With Ohio being the week before, I will not be able to get down there for the same reason that everyone else is complaining about... Dont want to do it 2 weeks in a row...
Any chance of Dave passing up or changing the date of the event in Ohio? What would be best is if we could get his croud up here as well.. (Bribe them with good beer, and the cheap Canadian dollar) [Linked Image]
As for changing our date... sheesh, I had already notified work that there was absolutely, positively, no way in he_l that I would be working that weekend... They probably wouldn't be too pleased if I go back and say "I was just joking"...

Well Im sure the U.S. event will be fine but one thing is for sure. Being a CANADIAN I will be supporting my own. I am going to St. Thomas no matter what. Besides if we keep giving in to this and go to the U.S. event we will never be able to get good turn outs for our events. Hands down I'm goin to St. Thomas.

My point exactly. I'll be in St. Thomas as well... just wish I could be at both. [Linked Image]

I checked some more details on Dave's, and the fact is that the major Import Event is the hinge point. It's already planned for the 23rd, so they want the DSM bundled with it. I can understand that.

Too bad none of them can be moved. It really stinks. As for myself, I'll attend the canadian event and I'll see for the DSM shootout. I really doubt I'll attend both. Stil, when I have to choose, I always prefer to go with the "local" guys.

OK, London isn't exactly local for us Kebeckers, but well, it's closer.

I'm really sorry to see that so many of you are not planning on going to Norwalk. Is there anyone still considering going? I will try to make it to both myself. The big draw for me is the autox. I'd be coming to Sparta mostly to hang rather than race (of course I'll race, but that wouldn't be my main reason for coming).

Well, it becomes even more interesting for me [Linked Image]

Darknights is on the 8-9 of July
Ohio is the 21-23rd of July
Marco is the 28-29th

I too will have to pass on Ohio this year [Linked Image]
