Reservation Change - Please Read

Reservation Change - Please Read - June 28, 2006 01:32 pm UTC

Well, it's a bit of a long story, and the choice of change is 100% up to you to make on your own, but here it is:

For many years, while driving from the Gull Motel to the track and back, we've always gone past this little place, called the Plantation Motel.
It looked a bit run down, and dumpy from the road, so, we never really looked into it.
This year, one of the Indystars guys, actually dug it up, and found a website for them, and saw what they really had to offer, hidden back from the road.
Heated pool, multiple room types, on the beach, fire pit area, lots of space for cars, etc.

So, I've called them, and got us some small discount.
The price, in the end, isn't much more than the gull (only $8 if you're staying only 2 noights), and they have SO much more to offer.

Anyhow, here's the details.
Again, up to you to choose, make a new reservation, and then cancel yours at the Gull.
That last step, make sure you take... Dale has always been good to us, but he just doesn't have the same facilities to offer.

----

So, I talked to the owner, got rooms details figured out, and here they are.

As suggested, they’re not far off the Gull price anyhow, and with the sucky US buck, well....
Contact details, are there on the website with everything else, at their website.

Room are now being booked, so don’t wait on it.
They have a 3 day cancellation policy, so better to book now, if you think you’re going, and then cancel later if you have to.

Todd is the owner, and I talked all of this over with him.
All prices are ‘plus local taxes”.
The Friday and Saturday prices, he didn’t move on, as he said, they’ll sell out shortly as it is.

Here are the room types, and prices for “Club DSM”: (use that name when booking) All rooms have A/C.
All of the 2 double bed rooms have small fridges.
The single king and single dbl bed "cottage" style rooms do not.
The heated pool is open now.

Single Room (one double bed, and you can add a single rollaway for $9 a night as well):
Thursday - $53.10
Friday - $69.00
Saturday - $69.00
Sunday - $47.20

Double Room (two double beds, but no room for rollaway):
Thursday - $62.10
Friday - $88.00
Saturday - $88.00
Sunday - $55.20

There are also some houses, larger suites, etc, designed to sleep 6-8 people, depending on which ones. These also have kitchenettes, a little more space, etc.
Check the website for details, or call and speak to them, for help in picking a larger place if you like, for a bunch of you, or a family.
Basically, he gave 10% off Thursday, and 20% off Sunday.

There is (as noted on the web) a fire pit for “sitting around drinking beer” (to quote the owner), and he supplies the wood.

I’ve (as of this morning) changed my reservations to the Plantation, while talking to him and cancelled at the Gull.
The Plantation owner, asked that if we can avoid it, don’t tell Dale at the Gull where we’re going. They apparently know each other, and he doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers.

Dale asked, and I just said “some of the other guys, found some new place, and booked me a room, don’t know the name”. wink
The Gull Motel is at:
(419) 433-4855
(866) 433-4855 Toll Free

There we be, talk to you soon.

Who's actually taking there DSM? Anyone going to run on the dyno, or the track?

Re: Reservation Change - Please Read - June 30, 2006 09:55 pm UTC

I am, Steve is, Mark is, Brian is... are the rest not?
Ziggy is, I'm pretty sure.

I mean, you don't have to race, but it's still part of the fun, seeing DSMs EVERYWHERE.

I tried to make a reservation today at the Plantation motel and nothing was left but a three bedroom home that sleeps eight for $289 a night. I guess I will stay at the Gull as originally planned. I see some other guys are still staying at the Gull so we will have to get together.

I also have a question for those have been to the Gull before, does it have a good safe parking lot for our cars?

No, the lot has tons of potholes. Oh and men dressed in black clothing and balaclavas come at night and vandelize all the cars. Two years ago, I had my rims stolen there. Unreal stuff.

tongue

The place is fine. Parking is secluded and close to your room. If you are worried about the car THAT much, leave it at home and go with a buddy or else it will be a miserable trip worrying about your car 24/7.

Actually I was asking for a buddy that will be staying there as well. He has had some bad luck in the past so I thought it was a fair question on his behalf for peace of mind. Then again he lives in Denver. You confirmed what we were hoping to hear.
Thanks for the comment and see you at the shootout if you are going.

You sure about the plantation being out of rooms?

They did have a bunch of single bedroom cabins, that could also take a roll-out cot, last time I checked.

They were cheap, and could sleep 2 guys...

The Plantation never mentioned anything else available but the one room that sleeps eight left. I did ask for two separate beds though. Maybe the guy I spoke with at the Plantation did not think to tell me about the cot option. Maybe I will give him another call.

Good idea.
Let us know what you find out please.

I might have to cancel my Friday night reservation. The new g/f got a new job, and it looks like she has to work Saturday until 4:00pm, so it is looking like I won't get there until Saturday night frown

I am still hoping she might be able to switch with someone, but she is just starting this job, so it is not that likely frown

Agreed....but she is REALLY new....her first day of "training" was yesterday, and her first "real" day of work is next Tuesday, so she is a little afraid to "rock the boat" so early into her employment there.....There is still a few weeks left, I will work on her a little.... smile

Re: Reservation Change - Please Read - July 13, 2006 07:10 pm UTC

We've got a couple of guys(cars) coming with us for the trip, but I would have thought that out of all the members on this board that there would have been more than just a handfull of people going.

Well, at the last minute, there are usually some converts... but many others are just "talk". wink

Used to be a lot more serious members, who truly enjoyed this sort of thing. Heck, one year, we had what, 15 cars on the ferry from Leamington to Sandusky?

That was fun... not cheap, but good things never are.

I'm bringing my Talon, and plan to at least hit the Dyno.

Also, anyone know of issues with reservations for people under 21 years old, i tried to book in Florida once, but they said most american hotels don't allow persons under 21 without adult supervision...

Probably just don't want the place trashed, so that's their policy.

Don't tell them your age.

Re: Reservation Change - Please Read - July 15, 2006 06:30 pm UTC

Well crappy. They have a room Friday night and a room Sunday night, but no rooms available Saturday. I guess we're staying at the gull.

We'll just have to go party at the plantation lol.

But last minute cancellation there, would mean I'm making a last minute cancellation at the gull. Don't want to screw over dale like that.

I was going to take it last year, to save some wear and tear on the car. But it was going to cost 180 bucks for my girlfriend, myself and the car for the round trip.

that'd be cool. Also, any idea about whether or not the dyno costs to take, and what is done? I want to know how my talon does on the dyno...
