help What now? - February 07, 2001 10:20 pm UTC

I was having a problem with my wacky idle on my 91 laser N/T
So I took the throttle body off and cleaned it all up nice,I removed the ISC thing and cleaned it really good with throttle body cleaner.I did not remove the TPS !
I put on a new gasket torqued it on properly and it ran mint ,great, perfect, for two days now the idle is sticking again.
when I pull up to a stop the idle stay up at about 1000 rpm the slowly falls to 650-700.same as before just not as bad!
Do I need a new ISC or are you supposed to lightly oil them before they go back together?

Any help would be great guys

Steve I don't really have an answer fot you but what have you been up to lately?

Did you get your code checker in yet? Hows that engine coming along?

Steve.. I'm not sure if this is on the N/Ts but on the Turbo's there is a plug on the back side of the TB (closer to the firewall), on the cam roll for the throttle cable (sorry, I'm too lazy to go figure out what the switch is called.. but it has only a single lead going to it [Linked Image] ). It tells the ECU when the throttle is at 0%.. if it is not connected (atleast in the turbos) it will cause a similar situation..

not sure if this will help or not.. but it may be worth looking into.. someone please correct me if I've given disinformation..

Steve, i've got the same bug. Sometimes my idle comes back down when it's warm... sometimes not. I pulled the ISC motor (what a pain) and gave it a clean & lube.. but didn't help. Think it could be an intermittent coil. Guess i'll have to pull it out and test it proper.

Hey!

It's called "Throttle Close Position Switch".

It tells the ECU that the Throttle Plate is close and allows the ISC cct to be operationnal. That is why we get funky idle when it is out of adjustement (Does not tell the ECU that the Plate is closed). All you need to adjust it is a wrenck (12mm, I think) and an Ohm Meter.

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

thanks guys .I have not drove the car in a few days but the lil, lady says its not bad !it only did it once yesterday but ran fine all day long.I'll look at it again on the weekend.

Vince

I've tried to ICQ you a few times.

Still have all the pieces for the code checker but its not hooked up yet.as far as the engine goes I'm having a prick of a time! Don't worry I have not done anything to it yet! I need to find the bolts to bolt it up to the engine stand.I made some (welded two together) but when I flipped the engine over two of the snapped right next to the welds and it almost hit the floor.
I've been really busy ! it almost spring time every one wants there bikes fixed.
