23 spline tcase is 1991+ AWD 'I THINK'.

and 22 spline is b4 1991 and earlier.

not sure if mt/at is the same btw.

yup, exactly, 22 spline is early 90, halfway through late 90+ they changed to 23 spline

jdm tranny/ t-case combos are also 22 spline.

Hey dude

You have got a JDm or early 90's tranny. I changed one of that too . after 90 the trannies became with a 23 spline transfercase shaft

The transfer cases are different in structure too. 23 is much heavier as I have heard.

I have a 22 spline TCase that came with the "new" tranny which I would sell if you like

BUT WATCH THIS one:
your gear ratio could be different. When buying a tranny for AWD car you have to make sure many things match if you front and rear diffrential gearratio don't match you are screwed.
But if that is alright just drop in a 22 spline trany case and live happy. I am not sure if the driveshaft splines are the same

HOw you can find the gear ratio:

there are two ways I can think of

1.Research and asking

two actually counting

If you look at www.vfaq.com there is a page on the gear ratios.

What you need to do is actually turn the inputshaft for example and count how many times the output shafts turn.
For example you trun the input shaft 50 times and your fron axle outputs turn 20 times. The tcase shaft turns 30 times. And then you find the gear ratio for your car's rear end and find the number that the rear wheel WOULD turn. THEY MUST match.

If the tranny is on the car it gets a but harder but with more accurate measurements involving angles you can do it.

Anotherway that I would do it is to put a 22 spline Tcase on
LIFT THE CAR
let it run with for wheels off the ground and see if they are turning at the SAME rate. In fact I think this is the best way considering installing a T case only takes 15 minutes.

I now did check that you are in Ottawa region

If you were in Toronto area you could have taken mine to test if it fits. My offer for sale still exists though.

One thing you can do is to borrow an extra one from a local member but the chances that a person has 22spline t-case sitting somewhere is very slim. what about the one that came with the tranny, just temporarily??

Cheers

I know a DSM guy in Ottawa, and I hear he's got some JDM stuff lying around. If you really need I can try to contact him see if he's got the T-case you need.

All 1g TEL tranny's have the same rear end and final drive ratios.

The only time you would have a problem is if you switched to a JDM or Galant tranny.

Find a 22 Spline transfer case and swap it in and go.
You might want to change the Yoke seal on the transfer case just in case.
