2G MAS probelm - October 04, 2007 04:14 pm UTC

Ok guys, the car threw me a CEL P0110 IAT (intake air temperature sensor) malfunction. Just wondering how do I go about diagnosing that. All the wires on the MAS plug look fine to me and I also looked at VFAQ and the 2G MAS wiring diagram. I do understand that PIN 8 there is nothing, thats what intially I thought was the problem. Now I searched and I found out that the sensor itself is actually inside the MAS. Any suggestions?

Also the car does not boost at at all. It reaches 0 psi from -20 vaccum and just stutters. The IAT malfucntion would be causing that right?

All help is appreciated!

Sounds like a boost leak to me.

Check your pipes, and your SMIC (if you have one).

I have FMIC. So you think a boost leak is causing the car not to boost at all not the IAT malfunction?

Could be. If you hit boost and your car starts bogging and sputtering, you probably have a boost leak.

Could be a bad MAS plug, I just replaced my plug as the car sometimes would studder and not idle/run. If you wiggle the wire it would come back. check that also

i'd also try a MAS cleaner like at Napa (CRC Sensor Clean)

Yea I was actually looking at the plug and I did count 7 wires going through the back but when I look at the plug from the front I only see 6 prongs to connect to the MAS itself.

Ok I did a boost leak and no solution found yet. Here is what happened:

I soaped/watered everything I possibly could and got a friend to watch the boost gauge. The boost gauge does even move from 0 psi. Now I know the boost gauge is working properly because when I drive the car it moves from -20 vaccum to 0 psi boost and then the car starts to stutter.

This was happeneing before too with my PTE 5031RE turbo as well and I thought maybe the wastegate flapper is giving me a problem. I shut that with more tension on the actuator arm but the boost leak test still didn't work. I swapped the turbo with a 14b now and boost leak test still doesn't work. Any ideas guys? Can't see or hear and leaks.

The air has to be going somewhere..
What kind of pump are you using to put air into the system

Post the logs on the dsmlink forums then give us a link to your post. Why dont you borrow someones mas and that way you can verify that your mas works. I also think its a boost leak but it can even be a major exhaust leak before the turbo or at the o2 housing. Maybe your turbo's pooched to much shaft play, I have a 20g with major shaft play and I didn't get boost.

I have checked the turbo for shaft play and there is none. Now as far as the exhaust leak, I know that when the car is running I should be able to feel the air leaking around the turbo or even the O2 housing but nothing felt. Correct if I am wrong please.
