Mechanic left me high and dry

Mechanic left me high and dry - June 21, 2011 03:20 pm UTC

Hey everyone,

I have been around the board but have been absent for a while. I put my 99 Spyder in for an engine swap in a shop in Georgetown earlier this year and pulled the 4G64 SOHC out of it and dropped a 6bolt 4G63-t into it, FMIC and a few other little mods.... but when the shop got it about 80% done they just closed up shop and left me hanging.

It is down to getting the electrical done now and according to the estimate of the shop franchise owner who is helping me out getting my car back, it needs around 15 - 20 hours of work to get it ready to tune.

I have absolutely no clue how to do anything electrical in the engine which is why I searched for a shop to do the swap in the first place... but now I am car less and have no idea where to turn.

Does anyone know a shop or mechanic who knows enough about the 1G 4G63-t to wire the electrical into a 2G Spyder and is will to take on the job soon? I have heard from a few shops that are willing but they are all booked until late July or August which would leave me stranded until then.

I know roughly what I should be looking to pay for the labour, the mechanical is all done and looks sound, but it will not turn over since there's no electronics working. It is currently in Georgetown but I am willing to move it, tow it, trailer it anywhere if there's a mechanic out there that can get'r done.

Any help, suggestions, recommendations, hell even humorous anecdotes to make me smile in my time of tragedy are welcome.

Jay

You can try All Star Auto. 190 Wilkinson unit 4 Brampton. He knows talons inside and out and worked on my Talons for 20 years. He could get the job done but not a performance shop. 905 452-8333

Magnus has no space in their bays until September so that's really just a last ditch call since I do not want to go the entire summer with no car. I will try all star auto and see what they say.

Thanks guys.

Is the engine in the car?

These is what is needed to get it running. Grab some beers and try to convince a member to help you.

You pretty much use the same wiring harness but have to swap injector plugs order. Also you have to wire the 1g cas in. 2g has crank sensor and cam sensor. You will use the 1g cas to handle both.

You may have a hard time getting someone to continue someone else's install. When i was half way through my install Marco did not want to touch it. It may cost you as much as or more.

Other places you can try are R&B auto in Oakville or Rowetech also in Oakville. (sorry thats where i live) smile I have used them both.

Another place you can maybe try is Strictly custom creations in Toronto. I know the guy there used to work on Talons.

Of course buyer beware. I am providing suggestions. I am not vouching for them in any way. Just stating that I have used them.

I would start with Howie at R&B auto. 905-825-2045. He is really nice and helped me with some of the problems and questions I encountered. He builds the motors there as well so he is pretty knowledgeable. His prices were also fair. I bought a ton of parts off him.
