Could you give a little more detail on the ram air setup? Did you buy it or make it? Do you notice the increase?

I'll try to tell you . Somethime it's hard to describe something in a writen format...
Place yourself in front of the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). Their is a vacuum line that brings vacuum to the FPR from the intake manifold. Take this vacuum line out, then take some blanking plugs (You can buy them at Crappy Tire)and plug the nipple at the intake manifold so you dont create a vacuum leak.
This will give you more fuel pressure at lower RPM (High Vacuum) I don't know if it will make the car go faster but it will reajust the mix, specially if you did some mod to your MAF. By the way are you using a Air/Fuel meter??? If not, use a Digital volt meter to measure the output of your o2 sensor. Basicly this does the same as a Air/Fuel meter.

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

Tell me if this helps.

Actually, it doesn't help. Sorry, but I don't know if that's gonna really give me that much more power since I only have a 1.8L under the hood. I mean, I can visualize what your doing, but then I wonder why you wouldn't just make a ram air setup with a pipe?

I got a "Costom Ram Air system", my maf is also moded. I did this to rectify a problem asociated in the moding of the maf, I had a lean condition at low RPM.
Some have tried this and found that they had a better throttle responce even if they did not moded their maf. I'm not saying do it, I'm only passing on some info that might interest you or others. I might also get some good feedback about it. Give it a try you might be surprise.
Have a look at my site. http://www.lks.net/~ghislisa/ I'm still working on it. Some of the thumbnail might not work, but it might give you an idea of what I did. Remember I'm not a pro, just a regular Joe that is willing to play with his toy.

ko i did the ram air and took out the double tubes out of my air box, but it ran like sh!t and i got a speeding ticket to. do i covered off the 2 holes where it use to be and it ran better, i pluged up my fule regulator vaccume line and it ran better 1st gear picked up as fast as my throtle went down, but then i was on the highway in 5th gear and doing around 2900rpm and my car was chugging so bad it was like hydraulics when i tryed to keep it at that rpm. how do i do my setups and read my o2 sensor, would it be in my book?

p.s. hey trevor do you have icq? and if so here is mine drop me a line it seems we both have 1.8L and can prolly help eachother out.

thnx for the replys guys

First step is to find which wire is the signal output of the o2 sensor. Drive the car around the block for 5 min. Then disconnect the o2 sensor. Take your meter (Digital is very important) and probe all four wire. The output from the o2 sensor should be less that 1 volt,do this last step with the engine runing, don't forget to ground the meter. Now, splice a wire from the o2 sensor output wire and run it inside the car. Reconnect the sensor.
Connect the voltmeter, again don't forget to ground it.
Now you are ready to take a drive and see what kind of Air/Fuel mix you got when you drive. This is helpfull when you play with MAF and/or intake sys.
The reading will go up and down at normal engine operation (close loop). At WOT the ecu should go into "Opend Loop" and the reading should stabilize. Lean mix is low volt, 0.1 V to 0.3 V, Avreage 0.4 V to 0.6 V and rich mix 0.7 to 0.9 V. Normaly at WOT you want to get above 0.75 V. 0.9 would be greath.
You car might be chugging at 2900 RPM because of a lean condition. You could also have a look at the fuel pressure. For this you will need a fuel pressure gauge.

Again I hope this helps.

My ICQ is 468 1905. And yeah, we probably could help each other out since we're stuck with the 1.8L "powerhouse"
