ok... i need to get a new rubber elbow. 2.25" anyone know where to get one?

so for my new setup ( actually not really new, just got some new things added), greddy 3" evo2 cat back, new 2.5" down pipe, greddy profec b spec2 controller, and a NEW equal length manifold! i went from 5psi to 10psi, sometimes spikes to 11-12psi. and so far so good, havent had it on the dyno yet but i can only guesstimate maybe 250whp!

for those with bigger turbos, when do you guys see full boost? the problem i have is that its soo late when it spools up but when it does, its kinda violent! ill get my normal 5psi@ 4500-5000 and then just jumps to 10psi or so! i tried messing around with my profec. i have it set for 10 psi (7.5 on the profec) and my gains are 25%. any help would be apreciated. ill post pics soon, now that i have a new digi cam and not my cell phone!!!

You should be able to find a rubber elbow at a local performance shop. How is you A/F mixtures at 10psi? You still running on stock injectors? I was boosting at around 8psi before and would be rich anything after 8psi my car would go lean. But now I'm back to 5psi until I upgrade my injectors. On my T3/T04 I'm fully boosting 5psi @ 3500

yeah. ive searched around for some decent elbows but, everyone ive been to either said they would have to order it or it would cost 95$$$bux! yeah right!, i still have some extra ss pipe, ill just make a new elbow outta that!

still, im trying to achieve the best possible response from this ebc. i now have it for 80(8psi) start boost, 50% set boost, and 30% gain! its just dumb how greddy has the SET BOOST as a percentage and the START BOOST as a kpa or psi value! but overall, its doing its job. i just need to learn this bitch!!

oh and btw, i dont have an a/f gauge! i need one bad! i know im going really lean. 800-850 degrees celcius@ wot on my egt! but i dont hear any machine gun sounds yet! i know im pretty close to borderline as far as hp numbers for a stock 420a block!

I'd definately turn down the boost to about 5-7psi until you have larger injectors and have it tuned properly, not all stock injectors are able to handle the same amount of boost you could have one bad injector and not even know it... playing borderline is not fun nor the ideal way to figure out your limits. It can end up to be a very costly adventure should you lean out too much. IMO save up and get a wideband o2 sensor setup (AEM Uego is good) take it to a dyno and tune it for 5-7psi, then save up for larger injectors.. how are you tuning? what FPR are you using?

What gauges do you have as of right now? I wouldn't even drive my car until I had a/f, oil press and vac/boost at least. Too many things that can go wrong.

Sounds to me as though you are gettin boost happy alittle too soon... could cost you big in the end.

sean. i have an oil pressure guage, a boost/vac gauge, and a digital egt. the last time i dynoed, my a/f looked like it was bang on. i only have a rising rate fmu and a hks super afr to control fuel if need be, but as of right now, theres really no need. plus i dont boost to 10psi on a regular basis, only on those hard runs!. i know it only takes a split second before i toast something, but thats the risk that im definitly willing to take!

im not really concerned about my a/f as much as i am concerned about my block. if i really need more fuel, i have a set of blue top injectors that im ready to drop in! there was some 2gnt guys a few years back saying the stock block handles 14-15psi before they started to bend rods! but i also remember them saying that they abused the **** outta those motors (for educations sake, obviosly!).

Just curious, what is your compression on all 4 cylinders? what condition are your stock rods/pistons and crank/bearings in? From what i've read on 2gnt most guys are lucky if they can run 8-10psi on a stock block/internals, max i've seen is 12psi. Every engine is different, your internals could be near perfect where someone else may have below-average or visa-versa its impossible to tell... so to say I can do it because others have is far-fetched. Why risk ****ing up your stock rods/pistons/crank and possibly more by running too high boost, run a safe level of boost, save up for a proper rebuild then do it right the first time.

sidenote: What psi did you dyno/tune at? what were your numbers (a/f, hp, trq)?

Dont forget guys, I'm running a 16 at up to 15psi on a non turbo motor, but my car was originally a turbo car, so I have all the turbo parts(ecu, injectors, ect.) I get no knock at 15psi. Just so u know. Been running 11 for 3 years, i hit 15psi(profec A) if I'm racing something realy fast.
Have had no problems, and no rods bending.

I'd definitely heed his advice.
420A are not designed for boost. The pin connecting one of my rods to the piston was in pretty bad shape. And I had it @ 6 psi. Like he said. If you want to go all out. Keep it at low boost and save $$$ for a rebuild. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a blown motor.

The block of the engine is pretty damn solidly built. But the rest is not so great, especially the notorious headgasket . So watch out. And I'd also watch out for the clutch. Mine already had a crack in it.

BTW my spool. Well, the turbo is a T3/T4 with E-compressor sized housing.
And if it spooled any faster, I'd be going into boost at idle. demon )

yeah... ive been thinking about what sean said. The big difference between me and what he said is the fact that i dont really care if i blow it up!... (to an extent)if it blows up, then it blows up. i already know the "things that could possibly go wrong" and it just gives me all the reason to rebuild. but in all honesty, the car drives and feels almost near perfect. other than little odds and ends that ive had to fix, (turbo setup) theres no evidence of knock(non that i can hear). i had a leakdown test recently, and the hg is still good! oh, as for my clutch, i've replaced that already and it still grabs good. ive been meaning to do a compression test but i havent had time to buy the actual tester so hopefully that will be soon!

thanks for the responses guys. im going back for another dyno run sometime next month so i can tune a/f, we'll see how TUNED i think i am..

I apologize if I came off like a dick/smart ass in my previous post. But I will assure you that you will not enjoy the rebuild process should you blow your motor. My car was down for nearly 9 months during a complete buildup rebuild (luckily I had another car to drive). Labour wasn't a problem it was part availability and shipping time from the southern states. Smartest thing for you to do if you "don't care" about blowing it would be to pickup another stock 420a from a scrapyard, boost the **** out of your current one till it blows, then swap the stocker in while you rebuild the blown..

Or better yet, pick up another 420A, and rebuild it.
THEN, boost the crap out of the one in the car. When it blows, all you'll have to do is swap in the rebuild. That should keep the down-time to a minimum.

yeah. i gotz my eyes and ears peeled looking for a spare. no big rush. i still have to get a few more tools before that happens. if you guys are having trouble finding parts, there's a company i used to deal with called dynoflo out of nevada. they're pretty quick and i think i only paid around 850 usd overnite shipped when i was in cali for a whole bottom end setup. it came complete. pistons, rods, bolts, and rings! this is for the 420a too!
