Well I know all old cars will always have things go wrong with them, but do you think this could be a problem?

I was turning onto the highway today, red making a right on a red and had to catch up to speed quick. Out of nowhere a car comes riding up on my rear gaining in quick. The highway was 80km/h and the car was going at least 110. I punched the accelerator and when I got to about 4k rpm, the car felt as if it was not accelerating anymore and kind of like the tires were spinning. The road was not wet that I remember.

I have quite a bit of tread left on my tires so I didn't think they would be spinning, this happened in 4k+ in 2nd gear and also in 4k+ in third. As far as I remember, the rpm were still climbing as this whatever it was, was happening. Could this be a sign of crankwalk, my clutch slipping? I have not idea so whatever information you have, that would be great.

Car is a 1993 eagle talon Tsi AWD, it still has a 7bolt engine in it (unfortunately). The car is completely stock other than a cone air filter on my intake.

slipping clutch.

And why 7bolt unfortunately? If built properly or maintained its just as reliable smile I run 25psi on a stock 7bolt and this is my 2nd year at that boost level. The other 3 I was running 18psi.

Will be building it up this winter but its been very good and reliable to me.

Oooh I didn't know about the 7bolt thing, I thought it was just something that happens over time. I'll keep an eye out and maintain it very well so it lasts.

I planned on doing a few passes at Cayuga on Sunday, think I should just say screw it and go for gold? I don't really care if my clutch burns in hell to be honest, I'll just buy a new aftermarket one. Whats your opinion on doing a couple passes on Sunday.

I've never raced before so it will be all new to me and is there anything else the clutch will take out if it actually goes while I'm racing at high rpm?

You will be very disappointed on a slipping clutch. Could potentially cause more bad then good.

Alright I'll be careful. But do you have any more information on what these bad things can be? Other then my clutch going and me not getting home in my car?

Clutch disc disintegrating? Pressure plate going boom?

You get my drift. wink

Not saying that it would happen....but it could and it wouldn't be nice at all.
I hear Ziggy might be bringing a clutch or 2 at the Invasion...good time to swap it smile

I get your drift lol. Also do you have any idea what Ziggy will be charging for a clutch? I would have to swap it at home because I'll have nothing at all at the event.

The 7 bolt you have in your car is just as good as a 6 bolt. I have Been running up 30 psi on my stock 93 7 bolt.

Depending on how bad the clutch is slipping, you might only get a couple of passes if your lucky. The stock clutch will not last too long if the car is modified and your doing awd launches at every light...

I stock several different clutches. If you are just stock, and ACT 2100 should be plenty. I also have some USED clutches in my "garage sale" right now, but NO GUARANTEE on those. I don't remember their history, how or why I ended up with them.

I think I MIGHT also have a couple NEW SBR 3500 clutches that have been sitting around for ages that might be going into the garage sale soon. I kind of want to limit the garage sale to a page at a time, so might wait for some items to sell before I insert others.

The other good deal if on a budget, is a NEW Fidanza 2.1. (good for 303 lbs. torque vs. 322 for the ACT 2100, but $100. cheaper).

If someone wants something SPECIFIC brought to the invasion, please let me know.
