A chisel? Damnit. Where was this four years ago?

I always tape the area and cut the Hose with a Hacksaw.

I'll be getting myself one of thise pupies and will give it a try next time I got to do some Hose!!!

1 word...Dremel

I have tried the dremel route, but his chisel idea looked BETTER!! and not even tape!!

Yep... 2 or three whacks and BAM your line is cut... no need to work away with a dremel, sparks, dust etc.

Plus, a dremel doesn't fuse the stainless to the rubber hose.

Wow, very cool! The dremel technique has always worked OK for me, but I'll have to try that next time!

I'll NEVER give up my angle grinder.

Has anyone actually tried this? I tried, without success. Of course, I was using a cheap Princess Auto chisel, but I sharpened it up. also, I didn't use aluminum underneath, I used wood....but it had NO effect on the hose....Anyone had any success??

You should get Helder to show you how to do it.

I've seen him do it a bunch of times....,

It took him like less than 15 minutes to put together my lines and install the fpr and fuel filter I got from you.

Grinder and tape is the best for cutting the hose as Steve says.

I like doing it..its easy...grinder & tape is the best way ...pull the tape off when trying to put fitting on..who likes to see tape on there no lines ...

The discussion here is about the use of a sharpened chisel to cut the line. Everyone already knows the tape and grinder technique.

It's funny, I go to CISCO (hydraulic shop) on a Saturday, and the guy behind the counter won't touch them unless I want them to turn out ugly.
He says to come back Monday for the guy with 30 years experience, as if it's some sort of an art
I believe it though, since I only ended up there after botching a few attempts and getting scared that I'd run out of line!
I was using the grinder method.

I have since tried again...sharpened the chisel again, and used aluminum underneath, and it DID work. Took more like 4 blows, not the two in the video, and a FEW little strands sticking out...but I notice even the guy in the video only rubs his fingers over the end after assembly, not right after it's cut. I would say it DOES come out a little cleaner than the tape and grinder method...

this video saved me alot of time, great post.
like ziggy said takes atleast 3+ hits to cut it, but comes out clean and so easy to press into the fittings.

I'm going to have to remember this when assembling the hoses for my oil cooler.

tried both, gonna stick with the electrical tape and angle grinder with a zip cut wheel.

ive tried both never going back to tape got all my fittings in first time just had to have the chisel realy sharp

how do you guys do your tape method? type of tape, and what grinder/wheel? I've never had an end get messed up with tightly wrapped electric tape and a good zipcut wheel( not on a dremmel)


also, how tight should AN fittings be installed? male/female. I dont mean attaching to the hose itself.

Tightly wrapped regular black electrical tape, probably 5 or 6 wraps. Maybe the cut-off wheel on the die grinder was too thick.
I just couldn't get a clean cut.

The fittings get tight in an instant, just don't use a wrench that's too long or wail on it, and it'll be OK.

I tried this before without success, I prefer the tape and hacksaw

By the way, I've seen it done with a compound mitre saw.
It sounds like the key is to just get it chopped as fast as possible so the threads don't get kicked around and unfurled.

2-3 tight wraps of Tuck tape and a zip disk or dremel worked everytime
