What a shame frown

People say Subarus understeer a lot. Maybe compared to an Evo they do, but out of the box or modded they're much better handling than a similar DSM which all they do is push for the most part. And I don't like Subarus per-say, but I will give them that.

I got to drive a stock WRX wagon in the winter back to back with my black awd 1g, and it was a lot more enjoyable and precise in the snow.

His name is Kenny Kline, he works for Dynotech tuning, he's got more than one dsm and tons of resources so not the end of the world for him fortunately.

I've always had a bit of a few of drag racing with some high HP rwd drives as I've seen some damn close calls when they get squirly, actually seen a collision at our local track.

Seems like that car wasn't built to turn or it was driver error.. But shitty none the less.

He would have had him if he launched and held on to it. Looks like the first turn he hammered on it.. And lost it a bit so he let off. Then when to hammer it agan in the next straight but lot control of the steering. It dosent look like it was a handlinv issue.. He was out of the turn and accelerating. Maybe too much wheel spin with out letting off to gain control. In fear that he would have lost.

Eitherway.. Thats a track biult for stock cars.. With less power. and brains. Prolly why the Subie did so well. Lal

Not a good track for a high hp Talon.

That was some of the most erratic driving I've ever seen on a track lol He couldn't accept his fate when the Subby took the bottom line... Looks like a fun little event though

He's raced that track many times with great results, it was just driver error.

I think its the first race I saw him not in the lead and he tried to hit the corner too fast to catch up.

He didnt hit the corner too fast.. he handled the second corner well, he came out of the apex full out, which he should have.. But the tires spun cause of the over powered car.. and he lost control of the car. Looked like he was hoping the tires would grab again, and he would shoot into the lead... But they never did. just smoked and slid into the wall. I dont see under steer at all. If he jndersteered or over ran the corner.. He would have hit the wall way earlier. Some people on the thread said that he driver reported something broke and leaked on the front tire.

It's understeer all day long. And something broke...? Is a viable but poor excuse really.

In a way you could call it under steer... But under steer is a product of improper suspension and power distrubution. that looked like just the tires breaking loose once the boost hit... And not letting go.

We could debate it all we want.. But either way.. The car was too over powered for that track. DsMs dont have the right power band for small track racing.. Thats why you dont see many dsms in time attack.

Put them in a drag race.. Or a more open road coarse.. The DSm would have destroyed the subie.

There's another video of him killing it with another 1G.

Something must've gone wrong with the 1G that went into the wall.

Uh Jay, that is pretty much the definition of understeer.

Nope.. The defintion of understeer is the cars front tires loosing traction before the rear tires while exacuting a turn. He was coming out of the turn And was accelerating to pass the Subie in the straight. All 4 tires broke loose and somethjng either went wrong... Or he figured the car would grip again and held his foot to the floor. That how I see it anyway..

The first corner was a good example of under steer and he let off.

Understeer and oversteer is the difference in angle from the direction you point the wheels and the direction the car goes which results in something called a slip angle. The guy in the video did not point the wheels towards the wall which is obvious but it still went to the wall therefore it understeered into the wall!

Ya mike.. But understeer is only when the front tires loose traction first causing the car to keep going straight while turning... Or just not turning sharp enough.. Which we are both right.. But I dont think that is what happened in the video. I hink he full throttled in attempt to pass the subie drag strip style...and when the boost hit, the car just spun its wheels and no matter which direction the car was pointed.... It was gonna head for the wall. His turning wheels, I think was not understeer... But trying desperatly to avoid hitying the wall he was aready heading for. But the car wheels were pointing forward when he lost control of the vehicle.

Thats all Im saying.. I think that he was to stuborn to loose the race and paniced in anger, loosing control because of foward wheel spin. I mean look at tbe guy in the end.. He was really upset with loosing against a stock subie.

I think he was more pissed off for writing off his car on a track. Insurance won't cover anything there. His reaction has nothing to do with the Subie wink

Our car's, will 9 times out of 10, understeer..rather than oversteer. And that applies to all AWD and FWD DSM's IMO. This is one of the 9 times lol

Especially considering it was an oval track.

You just explained understeer again. It can happen regardless if your on or off the throttle.

Eh... What ever... I was learning to deal with understeer before I knew it had a name. Hehe. And I still say if he had a 100hp awd car.. He would have been fine.

Anyway I showed my stock car driver buddie. He says its not a typical understeer... But it did end up in understeering into the wall. Siad the driver entered the corner completely wrong from the start. As he exited the corner he was all wrong and the momentum with the allwheel spin threw him off his line. Should have used a diamond method with a high powered awd and he would have came out of the corner in a better situation and had a better chance of getting beside the subie.
