Hello Brett.

I bought an Old FP Red (internally Gated) with a 8cm Housing 3 years ago. This Turbo is rated at 65lbs/min. This is probably the best Turbo I ever bought. It has a little Lag but I use ECMLink to control Boost; the thing push Air pretty good.

I see 20 psi by 5000rpm and 62lbs/min and 32psi by 7500rpm.

Go FP or go home!!! wink

Ghislain, I rememered you had DSM link wink
I'm sure I'll ask for tuning advice when I get ecmlink for this.
I need to more torque down low to get the boat out of the hole...and want to try and keep the RPM down as much as possible...

I know you got your answer, and made your mind up, but I'll add my 2 cents for whoever comes across this. I had a Green on a stock 6 bolt and it was a great street turbo for a daily driven, commuter AWD DSM. It kept out of unnecessary boost just cruising around, but on meth and 25+ PSI it hit pretty good and nothing ever got in my way short of a couple full on drag cars at the track.

I also had a small turbo DSM (14B lol) and that was a completely different animal. Ready to go at any point in the RPM range, a lot of low-end pickup around anything past 2k rpm, but ran out of steam hard up top. It was a great turbo for around the city.

The turbo you decided on should be a good happy medium between a 14B and a Green smile get the best of both worlds. I have yet to ride in a properly setup E316G car, I would imagine it's a blast for a street car.

I am definitely not at the level I would call properly setup but it's definitely a blast, and I am sure I can get it to that level for next summer!!

I was running mid to high 11's @118-120 MPH all day on my E316g full weight/full street trim. Had to have been the most fun street setup: ~450 WHP with instant boost in any gear.

it's going into a boat! putting it into a jet boat smile i need the outa the hole, not top speed...and i need to pack weight and dont want to be at to high an rpm for to long, just up on step and throttle back, sit around 3500-4500rpm

When I scrap my truck I should keep the 6BT and find a boat shell to put it, probably need a monster lower unit though with all that torque lol.

6BT is way to heavy for a shallow water boat...when you hit bottom, that extra 500lb will rip the bottom open..some guys are using VW 1.8t

I would think that a diesel motor would be better for a wider stronger torque power band.

Yes they have that advantage for sure..you also need either a huge pump OR more RPM on a smaller pump. 99% of jet boats in NA run Mercury Sportjets 200hp,400lb or v8@ 300hp/300tq,650-800lb... the Sportjets are what most smaller or shallow water boats want because they can drag the boat off the rocks when need be, v8s are to heavy and it's NOT fun....this is where the 4g63 shines...v8 power in sportjet weight

Interesting.. Thats real shallow!

Ever thought about running a Saturn 1.9l from the early 90s.. All aluminum block, stock 9:1 pistons, 8000rpms no prob. Will handle a little boost. And alot more of them aitting around n junk yards. The rock crawler guys used them all the time.

Ya here it would be in lakes if anything, not much for shallow water around here.

In all reality, I'll probably turn it into a backup generator, blackouts are pretty common here and my little 4000w generator gets it done for the most part but having 20+ kw on hand would be nice.

I want 20kw or more tongue and would love to make a project of it. The engine is worth more than the truck as a whole at this point.

Not to mention diesel for longevity. The last time we lost power was for 6 days.

Is this just so that you can continue welding during a power outage? Or do you have Griswold-style Christmas lights?

If I feel like melting some aluminum at 200 amps, I'll do so when I damn well please tongue

Actually in that last outage, our house was the only one lit up every night for several km haha. I have a generator transfer switch so we had full electrical amenities except for hot water, just not enough generator for that. It was all fun and games until Videotron's network went down after 3 days when their backups ran out of power. Good thing we still had the PS4 and phone tethering haha.
