Hey Guys,
So I know that it's time to put on Winter tires but I will be due in the spring to get new tires for my Lancer.
I've got 18" rims and have always bought tires at Canadian tire, Goodyears/Bf Goodrich etc... I wanted to get something that was a little better as I'll be boosting by then but still don't want to break the bank!
I'm ok with around ~$300/tire.
Any feedback from FWD guys would help as I find all the tires I've had just do a lot of spinning and grip is minimal. Hence the $130 price tag on them! lol..
I'm currently running 215 45 18 and want to go wider to 225 45 18 as it'll give me a little wider stance.
Cheers

Been really happy with my Hankook Ventus V12's, they grip enough to almost nail a 1.5 60' and have lasted 2.5 summers so far.

Agreed, and they should be close to half of what you budgetted

Michelin supersports are popular. Prolly top of your price range.
Hankook rs3 aswell

I like my Bridgestone s04s but the sidewalls are a bit stiff for a fwd launch. Same could be said about the Continental DWs

Altho If it were me.. I'd look into more rubber less rim.

Is this going to be a daily summer car? or is it going to be a weekend car?
If it's weekend than rs3 is a good choice, if it's a daily I think you will burn through them pretty fast.

I had BFG G-Force Sport 2's on my red Talon and no problems cutting 1.6 60' times (mine you, AWD) but I liked them so much I got them for the Evo as well. I find they are really good in the dry but also extremely good in the rain. Definitely priced well and they perform great for a daily driven car and wear well too.

That and they're not great in rain (and by not great I mean pretty bad, especially when worn down a bit), but you will feel like your car is glued to the asphalt. They are probably too stiff if you plan to drag race and will likely cause you some snapped axles. If you just want a fun car that will hold the power and carve corners, these tires will most definitely do the trick.

Personally, I've always believed Hankook to be the absolute best bang for the buck and have been through multiple sets of Ventus V12 Evo's on various cars (including DSMs). That being said, since you have some time, I would wait and look around for clearance deals (winter is coming), manufacture rebates, etc. There are a lot of great tires out there and you should be able to find a great deal on something that will make you happy. smile

Ha! I don't have the luxury of weekend cars for now! This will be my daily driver.

Thanks for the input guys!

G- force comp 2 get my vote. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. But I also agree with Jay Stacey more rubber less rim.

No way! I'm all about my powder coated 18's bro! lol...
I'll stick with them for this year and see how the car behaves with boost.

Powder aint gonna get you grip. It might look sexy. But if you are looking grip look for more rubber.

Besides.. I predict after November.. The American economy is gonna fall apart and We will get much better tire prices.

I just finished my first season with the hankook v12s and I was super impressed. I was pretty aggressive with them since Cambridge is rittled with round aboots and I have a FWD spyder that I daily. There's still a ton of meat still on these tires!

I grabbed mine from a place in Brampton last year for cost! I think the place was called legend tire?

Ya the v12s seem to be the choice of DSMers. At shootout . every other car was wearing a set. I kinda wish I had bought a set when I got my bridgestonesm I could have had a set of 235/45 r17s for the price of my 225/45s.

But the guy at tire rack said the hankooks would wear out faster.

Mine still have over 50% left and we bought them at basically the same time. Usually faster wear = more grip.

Ya.. But to me that's where street tire vs track tire are defined.

At the time the s04 rated higher for traction vs tread wear then the hankooks.

But not as good as continentals or Michelins.

But sidewall stiffness is also important.. The stiffer the sidewall... The less grip you will have. The v12s have a soft sidewall.. More grip. Good for fwd. Where my s04s have a stiffer sidewall. The stiffer sidewall corners better. Since us awd guys have better grip anyway... We can sacrifice the tire grip.. For better handling.

I bought them pretty much specifically to give me the best grip for drag racing and I still fight traction, I usually peel all through 1st and chirp second, so if anything I need more traction lol.

You should prolly try slicks at this point.

If get anymore grip.. Your gonna need better drive train. Lal

That's the plan for this winter actually. Going back to a 4 spider instead of the welded center and a set of slicks. Should actually break less than with street tires. Inconsistent grip and stiff sidewalls kill drivetrain parts.
