Guys, I launched the car off a low curbed median last night. The RF tire and rim are shot, the RR rim is dented too. The car squeals around low speed corners and the steering wheel is twisted about 20deg.
Any suggestions as to where I should take this? Is this a Midas thing, or a body shop thing, or a Speedstyle thing?

I think just a regular mechaninc thing. Sounds most likely the control arm bent on ya and the tire is not going straight down the road but instead the tire is angled and is dragging the tire kinda sideways.

I could be wrong though. anyone else have an input?

A friend of mine did the same thing with is golf last summer... the result was a bent suspension arm, one shot mag, one scratch mag... and an new allignement really needed! but it cost him about 200$ for the repair (and it cost me 2 mag... because they were the one's I had on my Storm before I sold it... )

I'm quite sure it will not have hurt anything else... unless you hit the curb harder than him... wich was going sideway (read : the face of the mag right on the curb) at about 65 km/h.... And I was amazed that the tires (potenza something) did not suffer at all in that so maybe your tires will be ok too!

Thanks guys,
I called Eric and he said to take it to OK tire for an alignment and take it from there. So I did, and there's no suspension damage according to the shop.
I do need 2 new rims and 2 new snows before they can align it properly but that's it. I can't complain about that at all.
How happy am I?!! I can't believe how overbuilt our front ends are. If I was in a Honda I know I'd be replacing lots of stuff.

George,

Yup, Geoff is an honest guy. Been taking my car there for a while. He used to have a mechanic, (Amin)who was great, but he's not there anymore.
If ya go, tell him I said "Hi".
What are you doing launching your car off medians, anyways????

Geoff

How hard did you hit the curb?? I have the same problem right now, but two bent rims, steering wheel is turned to the left and rear the wheel is bent too, my rear is really loose.

Hmmm...reddish car with a different colour roof, hidden headlights, and I was with a blond relative...eerie similarities.

Anyhow, my brother and I were partying in NYC on the weekend and since I never get to see him, I drove him to the airport. We were staying in up-town Manhattan so I had to go East to get to JFK. The marking for the tunnels going east was absolute ass, plus we were both tired and hungover. I missed one exit, and then a second one, so I decided to cut the car hard over the painted lines before the median started. Anyhow, being at night, with crap on the windows and road etc. etc., those lines were actually a ow 3-4" curb. I was doing about 80 clicks and I got the car airborne and landed in the other lane. It was a shallow angle, so the RF corner hit first, then the RR, LF and LR.
I can't begin to describe how bad the drive back was. The adrenaline pump after the hit sucked my last energy reserves. I left the hotel at 6PM and got back to Ottawa at 6:30AM Monday. Work wasn't fun when I got here at 11.

As for me, I didn't really launch it into a curb.......it was kinda like me and my gf got into a fight, she turned my steering wheel (while in the residental street) in like half a foot of snow (AWD can only help you so much) and then I tried to save it, my rear end hit the curb first, then my front, my front is really bent, my rear wheel is bent quite a bit too, I'm gonna get i fixed this weekend so I hope there isn't that much damage........Keep you guys updated

And she's not your gf anymore...RIGHT?!? (:

Heh, sounds like the time my father was scaring my mother while they were dating. '69 Ford GTX driving really fast down a public road. She screamed at him to stop a few times, and then just slammed the automatic into *Reverse*... OUCH...

Haha, you hit it right on the dot, I had an unbearable urge to kick her out of the car while moving......

Well, I guess that was over with, I just found a set of rims, now I need to do an alignment......

Edwin's not kidding. When he was over picking up my wheels last night, I saw the ones he banged up [Linked Image] . I'm suprised the tires don't just fall off.
