Kewl,
Allan ,
Give me a call on my cell the night before at 794-4622 to confirm you are going. Maybe we can hook up and go together. Are you getting race gas?

Reza,
I'll be in Montreal the night before, so I don't know when I'll be showing up. My vague plan is to get back into town late morning/ early afternoon and swap on the RA1s (go grip!) before heading to the track.
I'll give you a call before I head out!
Probably won't be using race gas, but if the pump prices get much higher, I might end up using it all the time.
Later, Allan. 97 TSi

Hey Allan ... you won't be needing those RA1s on the strip in your car. You could probably 'out grip' all those slicks wearing RWD boys with emergency spares at all four corners of your TSi.
AWD = good for traction ... bad for clutch

Yeah,
I know I don't need them for the drags, but it's the first autocross on Sunday as well, and I want to put another heat cycle on them before I go.
(and putting them on Saturday means I don't need to be swapping tires before 8am Sunday!)

Hey, where's Luskville anyway? Can I peddle there from the Gatineau Hills after finishing my riding Saturday morning?

What a weekend!
We had a great turnout at Luskville Saturday night. Things really started hopping around 6pm - the cars were coming in faster than I could get down the track. I think there were almost 200 cars by the time I left!
Everything from open wheel dragsters, to bikes, to snowmobiles (turning 10's!), to punks in Civics were well represented. I think I counted 6 other Talons there as well. (How'd it go John?)
My best run was actually the first one, a big whopping 15.990 @ 85mph (and a really badly bogged launch: 2.2 sec 60ft). I know I can do better...
Got a few more passes in, none of them very good, but I'll be back trying to figure out how to drive in a straight line.
Theres nothing like beating on a late model Camaro who scoffs in disbelief when the starter makes him run against you!
Later, Allan. 97 TSi
ps. Sorry to hear about your troubles Reza, hope the tranny works out for you.

Here is my update:
I went at 11:30 am and I was one of 12 cars there. Of the 12 2 others were my friends. One with a Type R and the other with a 300ZXTT.
I did all my runs with full interior (Jack, spare and all) on pump gas onyl with 3/4 of a tank.
I hooked up the OBD2 and did some runs to tune. During all runs 1-2shift was grinidng and in some runs I could not get it into second. The best I managed with the grind with the above config was 13.01@106.5 with a 60' time of 1.83
Encouraging. This means with a proper tranny and a better 60' time(1.7) I could potentially do 12.6 on pump gas at 17 psi only ! With race gas, proper tuning, good tranny and driving I should be where I expect which is very low 12s or high 11s.....
Now for the bad news. I have lost second gear. The last 2 runs, my car would not go into second well as all. After I decided to stop racing due to the tranny problem, the car decided to not stay in second at all. Every other gear is fine. I can put the car into second but as soon as I release the clutch, there is a grinding noise and the shifter pops out of gear...During the drive home it would sometimes engage and hold second fine but by the time I got home it would not do it at all. I have an appointment witrh B&N transmission on Wed to find out the damage. T e bummer is that I am doing the timing belt tomorrow as well. So I have to potentially sink $2000 in the car this week to get it running again!!! D'OH
Does any one have any ideas on what might be the problem with my tranny?
BTW, the Type R with an AEM intake, underdrive pulleys, short shifter and exhaust did 14.2

Hey Guys,
With terrible compression (125, 130, 100, 125)and stock turbo etc. I ran a surprising 13.90 at 98.6 MPH WOW. (Frank 3 is still sitting here beside my desk waiting for me to give him some time and install everything.)
I am hoping to put in all the mods over the next 2 weeks if i can muster up some time and floor space at the shop.
Hope to be ready for June 24 Weekend at Luskville.
Thanks for the interest Steve R.
Poor Reza..... Good luck with B&M Transmission...They do good work.
See YA John

Well,
$2300 later and the car should be back together with a used tranny and a new clutch disk... Appearantly I burnt off all the friction material from my disk in 5 months of driving with a brand new Centerforce Dual Friction 2500lbs ballbearing clutch... Yikes, either I am too hard on clutches or the car is making lots of power or both....
