I have made a number of modifications to my car since I bought it in 1995.
I know it is now "quite fast" but I have no idea on how many HPs my car develops.
I would apreciate your opinion on how much power I now have (not me personally but my car, of course).
Here are the details:
1992 Talon TSI AWD (190 HP, stock according to the Chilton Shop Manual)
Mods that should increase the power:
- K&N filter with related mods (honeycomb, cannister, etc.); - 3 inch turbo back S.S. exhaust; - 3 inch high flow S.S. cat; - 16 G turbo (small) slightly ported; - 2nd gen. exhaust manifold slightly ported; - upper intercooler pipe; - Mike Jackson's MAF mod; - unorthodox aluminium crankshaft pulley; - MBC set at 18 psi (running strong); - Tuning advanced by 3 degrees; - Centre Force D.F. clutch; - Upgraded and re-wired fuel pump.
Thanks in advance.
Yves

Ok, here's my guestimate 290-310HP if everything's in tip top.... ------------------ 90 TSi FWD at 17.5 PSI 14.1 @ 99.5MPH Raced a Kawasaki KX-11(or something) Scared the hell out of me, and him ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif)

I have "similar" mods on my '91 Laser and it puts 255 to the wheels (Dyno tested twice). I'd say you could be putting between 250 and 265 to the wheels) ------------------ '91 Laser RS Turbo-"Sound Advice" guy. http://www.geocities.com/rsturbo.geo Turbo + Intercooler = The replacement for Displacement

Well yeah, 255HP to the wheels, factoring 15-20% (maybe more with AWD) driveline loss would equate to 290-300HP at the crankshaft...

Well, I am all confused now.
If I look at Buschur's stage 1 (take the car to 300hp), I have every thing but the test pipe and even more (3 inch all the way exhaust, 16G turbo, intercooler pipe, MAF mod). How come I am not over 300hp?
Also, is the stock 190hp at the wheels or at the crahkshaft?
I apologize for my ignorance (and dissapointment!).

Buschur's stage 1 is 300hp at the crank, not wheels. Also Buschur's 300hp is achieved on race gas and 20+PSI. You are propably would make 300hp or more at the crank with race gas and a bit more boost.

And.. once your car leave the dealer lot that number starts going down. Unless you keep up the maintainence... Of course that doesn't apply if you're modding the car. JOE ------------------ 1992 Eagle 2000GTX

3 hp- K&N filter with related mods (honeycomb, cannister, etc.); 15-20 hp- 3 inch turbo back S.S. exhaust; - 3 inch high flow S.S. cat; 10 hp - 16 G turbo (small) slightly ported; 10 hp - 2nd gen. exhaust manifold slightly ported; 5 hp- upper intercooler pipe; 0 hp- Mike Jackson's MAF mod; 15hp- unorthodox aluminium crankshaft pulley; 20hp- MBC set at 18 psi (running strong); 3 hp - Tuning advanced by 3 degrees; 0 hp - Centre Force D.F. clutch; 0 hp- Upgraded and re-wired fuel pump. 190+86=276hp That's my final estimate. These #'s are from dyno results I've come across and not by the bloated manufacturer's #'s. (as an example, unorthodox claims 2.7hp gain for every pound taken off the crank. The balance shaft removal would net 32hp if that was true which we know it's not.) ------------------ Michael Hamilton 1990 AWD Talon ICQ: 2422195 pager: 416-547-7028

every pound taken off the crank, that is an old rule of thumb partaining to knife edging. that means every pound off the crank, at the outer edge of it. removing weight from the outside circumference of an object will net you the best performance. Balance shafts are only 2" across so that rule does not apply. And how can you say that the Mike J mod makes no HP? at 18 psi with a cut mass air the difference at high rpm is huge. You can actualy hear the noise because of the vacuum created between the stock mass air and the turbo? Remember I did 12.3@ 121 on the Mike J mod. PWT did 12.5 @110 think about that for a second that means my car made between 400 and 450 hp with that MPH through an opening 1.5 square inches across? Without me pulling out formula's you cant flow that much air through the stock unmodified mass.

20HP for upping the boost from 10-18Psi?? That seems way too low. A conservative number that tossed around for DSM's with mods is 5HP/Psi. Can anyone confirm this? ------------------ 90 TSi FWD at 17.5 PSI 14.1 @ 99.5MPH Raced a Kawasaki KX-11(or something) Scared the hell out of me, and him ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif)
