Those coatings never last. Id be careful with pacesetter, known to leak and crack.

They are an alright company but there coatings always peel off right away. They beat OBX and SS AutoChrome anyway.

When I had NT 4g63 pacesetter headders, it done the same thing.

Car may smell bad as well but should only last like that for a day or 2.

Looks normal to me and I had mine for about 6months and never broke.

Here goes my second atempt at a response...
I have ran a Pacesetter header for 3 years now and LOVE it.
BUT you ****MUST*** at least get it Extreme heat coated! So take it off while your hood still has paint and the header isn't cracked and call Fireball coatings(519) 925 6342 or get the info offf the website. Very reasonable guy! I highly recommend the black cause it's good for 2000 deg and the silver slowly wears away...I wish i got the black.
The other thing i recommend is you get the back side of the header where it bolts to the head ***TIG*** welded before you get it coated.
Rob C had the same header but the back side was not welded and he had his coated from pacesetter and his cracked where they all joined together.
I also think the key to them not cracking is keeping the exhaust support that bolts to the block, i know most DSMER'S do away with that and it puts alot of stress on the manifold,header,02housing and turbo. And just for a good test when the car is cool push on the header or turbo and you'll see how easy it is to move, then think of all the engine vibrations and that monster downpipe that scrapes every driveway entrence naughty So keep you lower support and it won't crack

I have had NT pacesetters. Same awful coatings.

I knew it would happen so i just sanded it down and painted it with hi-temp manifold paint. Works so far after a year...

If you must, get the hi-temp ceramic coated headers from Pacesetter

all the sh!t paint flakes off right away! How is performance compared to a stock manifold?

they look like crap too. Bad looking welds.
From what I've heard, any header will crack, if they dont account for expansion in the design. Maybe thats the problem?

performance is alot better. seems to flow alot more then the 2g mani.

the welds look fine by the way, cracks mostly happen when use 2 different types or grades of metals that expand at different rates.

at least i havnt heard any horror stories like with the SSautochrome and XSpower headers

Swapped my first DSM engine a few weeks ago, In my Talon, steep learning curve, tips here and VFAQ great help. (enjoyed it so much bought a second DSM)
I Installed a Pacesetter Ceramic coated header & 3"Pacesetter Ceramic coated D/P which I bought of board members, Both seem to be staying good no peeling yet.
The pipes and ports on the header seemed small so I did some mild porting on the ports and turbo flange just to even everything out. only had a stock 1g mani which was cracked so hence the change.
I still only have a 14b which I rebuilt and put back on but the change is amazing boosts a lot quicker with the header and d/p combo.
A buddy is making me new heat shields and we are trying to come up with an extra brace, I am using the stock one but think another will not hurt. I will post pics if we get something that works.
You guys are a great help to a DSM Newbie!

Where did you guys buy your header from? how much? One last question for the guy that got his fireball coated. How much did that cost and what colours does it come in?

Just some info.

In another forum I belong to, I remember an indepth discussion about pacesetter headers. As with Mark, they all burnt the paint off instantly and after only a few months to a year most of them cracked. Not all. They also compared these headers to another brand (there is only 2 makes of headers available for these cars) and one small company "prototype".

On the dyno the results showed the Pacesetter lost 3hp and about 2ft/lbs. The other brand gained about 5hp. The prototype gained about 8 or so hp.

At that forum pacesetter headers were generally disliked. However, there was a few people who really liked the header.

But don't forget, these headers are a different model for a different car.

Answer to Mike, they offer black and shinny chrome. The shinny chrome turns grey quick, so shinny chrome turns into the color of stock dsm valve cover. I should have got the black. The black is a better coating than the grey cause it stands up to the heat AlOT better.
And for Ihton's post...your posting about a differant cars header results! My seat of the pants feeling don't lie. My car use to fall on it's face @5000rpm after the pacesetter header it pulled good to 7000. And the first time you start the car up you can hear it breathe better. In my opinion awsome investment! They sell for less than $200(Mopac performance in canada) and they do warrenty it from cracks for a year. Ebay has these way over priced.
But on a bad note, i have talked to 2 people that theres has cracked. I think the differance is my car HAS the lower downpipe bracket still bolted to the block. When you put all the weight of the exhaust and the turbo on that tiny header it's bound to give up!
And forgot to add...THE PAINT THAT COMES ON IT IS ONLY TO KEEP IT FROM RUSTING WHILE IN THE BOX. It's not a header paint.
